I wanted to make a little flash with sprite sheets and I wanted to use a background, but when I put the sprite onto the background, I don't know how to get rid of the white outline around the sprite. How do I get rid of the white?

The only ways I know of, are cutting it out with the lasso tool, or using trace bitmap. But trace bitmap may not make it turn out the way you want. I bet there's a better way though..

Do you mean the white bg on the image of the sprite? If so you have to do the following:

1.Select the sprite image

2. MODIFY > TRACE BITMAP

3. A dialog box opens, click ok.

The sprite will be turned into artwork. you can now select the white and delete it.

ok?

Here is a link to help you understand the different settings in the trace bitmap dialog box and to get the look you need.

Yeah like these guys said, you have to trace the bitmap... Try finding a tutorial in the learn stuff forum in the Flash Portal I guess... I warn you though, if you trace a large page of sprites, it will most likely slow down your computer thus making you want to punch a hole through the moniter! But that's just me...

When I paste the image on Flash, I go to modify and bitmap, buy the options are grayed out and I can't use them..

Is it broken apart or grouped? because that could be a problem... (It should be, you can just click on the bitmap and it has a little outline around it and white dots in the middle...) If it's none of these, then I have no clue...

I don't think you can.

So, apparently, I got banned for 3 days for having an opinion.

Nope, I didn't modify it at all, all I did was Copy+Paste it from paint and click on bitmap, and it doesn't work.

Try just getting one off of the internet and copying it directly into Flash... Maybe that will work... It works for me.

if you copy paste from paint, for some reason it will group the bitmap, so press ctrl + b and then trace it

I never claim to know everything, people just assume I do anyway.

It worked, but it makes the inside white and all messed up.

Thats where the trace bitmap settings I was talking about come into play. Here is a screenshot of my settings. This will render your sprite to almost an exact replica...note: Flash may take a few minutes to finish rendering the image. Its best to use small images and trace them one at a time rather than trying to do a whole sheet of sprites. Also if your comp is slow you might want to just open the sprite in fireworks and then remove the background and leave it transparent. Then export it to flash as the .png. It would probably be less of a file size by doing it this way than tracing all the bitmaps. Anyway here is that screenshot...hope this helped

Making transparent backgrounds?
