Is it just me, or do you people get annoyed when someone just argues something for the sake of being different?
I have noticed this quite frequently in the forums, someone has a valid point with well argued facts, then some idiot comes by, and posts a bunch of stupid rebuttals that in the end state nothing -- just oppose what the last person said.
If someone said, having sex with your dog is wrong, i am positive there would be a few "intellectuals" arguing- freedom to do whatever you want, and who cares what people do behind closed doors, or people should do whatever makes them feel good, or anything stupid that comes to their mind.
Comeon people, grow up, arguing for no good god-damn reason isn't going to make you look smarter -- i am aware people all have different opinions on issues, but sometimes it is really obvious someone is trying to bring down someone's valid points for no good reason.

There are three groups that could possibly fit that description

1) The morons
These genuinely stupid people will say whatever they can to get a rise out of people. While these posts occur a resonable amount, they are rarely from the same people. Morons tend to strike infrequently and randomly.

2) The delightfully evil
These people sometimes diguise themselves as the morons but there posts are always dripping with sarcasm and satire. For some this is there means of political discussion, for others it is a fun game they like to play. High frequency and post counts are a usual dead giveaway

3) The True DAG
The true DAG will usually engage in intellecual conversation unless they believe you to be too stupid to waste their time on. It is not wise to intentionally make yourself an enemy of the DAG because many of the regulars are in fact DAG themselves. It is one thing to get into an argument with them, but to call them all morons is ranked among the worst things to do in this particular forum.

what i am saying is you will commonly see some14 year old with a digimon in his display trying to talk about the nuclear crisis in iran, it's just hilarious

To me, it's an intellectual exercise... to see if I can get into other people's heads... look at something from a different perspective... and to solidify my own thoughts and opinions through learning what I think my opposition feels. Hell, sometimes I even change my own mind.

Thus I end up being one of the 3rd group that jmaster listed. Folk like -poxpower- fall more into the second group.

Anyone with a chubby devil in their sig, for the most part. In particular, it's an organization I founded quite some time ago on this site to help negate the effects of groupthink and the fallacy of the excluded middle as it applies to the bipartisan nature of American politics.

Which, is of course, one of the founding principles of the DAG, being that if it's logical, then by definition it must be correct. Furthermore, we tend to see all actual "getting offended" or personal insults to be just silly, and to be used only when silliness or sarcasm is being engaged in. Which, BTW, is all the time. Buffalo wings.

Ah, but what position did he take? Is he defending it with a logical debate based upon a series of agreed upon precepts? These are the kinds of things true DAGs are interested in, well, besides dope and porn and the occasional fried food of choice.

I think the topic starter is correct for the most part. Some people just like to argue. You could create a thread titled "abortion" and post nothing in it but the word, "abortion". and someone would come in and say" It's the woman's right, the babies can't feel anything anyway, and I know all of this because I'm a doctor and I don't have a uterus so really I should shut the hell up." On the flip side, you'll have someone come in and say," it's in the bible, it's wrong!!! Don't kill babies!! babies have feelings. I know this because I'm a doctor too and I don't have a uterus so really I should shut the hell up too!" They just like to argue either way. I tend to try and stay out of the argument unless I really believe the viewpoint I am typing from. Then you have those retards who come in and just say " 1337 teh abortion WTF lol."

We have Shrike and Avie, plus me, FUNK, Jonas. And when was the last time the PC crew did anything? got a new member? what happend to your website?

The PC is sort of like the legionaires hall. Its a bunch of people who use to do something just kind of sitting aroudn talking about how great they use to be, but not really doing anything, and pretending they still matter even though they dont do anything or even make attempts at doing anything.
