What does the shuttle crashing have to do with being American?
That's life. (It's pretty sad though).

Sad really. See what budget cutbacks do to programs that actually need the cash to operate correctly?

You know what kind of upsets me? There was a (please forgive spelling if wrong) Iraqe man on the shuttle. He most likely 98% did nothing but what if the people in Iraq take credit for this and consider him some hero?
ps. give me that spelling before it annoys me all day.

im wondering what everyone thinks this means for the future of the american space program. I think there is going to be a serious look at the safety of the space shuttles, especially now that they are 20 years old. The result may be different than 1986 when the challenger exploded.

Damn... The Columbus was tested to work for 100 Missions, that ship only worked 22 and exploded before landing. I dont think this is because something crashed with it... The Nasa Personal MUST be renewed before continuing with its proyects. If no change is made, I wont be surprised if another error of that kind is made...

Hmm.. I've kept on hearing that it was an Israeli guy, not a Iraqi guy.

With reference to the Israeli it seems an unfortunate coincidence that he was on it. Firstly because it was a big thing for Israelis and secondly it could be viewed as a terror attack. However, how this could be caused by a terrorist I don't know, it seems to be more likely that they just screwed up.

I've heard that the terrorist attack has been discarted, that it was a problem on the left wing

yea the guy was isralie not iraqui. infact iraq is happy about the explosion. i heard on one site that iraq claims that the columbia exploding is "gods vengence on the americans." as for the isralie guy, he was a big icon in isreal, and theyre all really sad, but the never claimed he did everything. all that aside it was a terrible tragedy.

the space program is the greatest program ever to be produced from the US goverment besides the military. I hope that after some hiatus the program will be able to pick up where it left off. Without NASA many scientific feats could have come many years later than they did (computers smaller than rooms and lots of other things).Does anyone know whats to happen to the three people still aboard the International Space Station?

It was because tiles on the left wing blew off during liftoff, and NASA people looked at it frame by frame and deduced it would be safe for re-entry... Well that call was the third mistake in NASA history. (Apollo 1(?? i think, with Gus Grissom) fire; Challenger 17 years and 3 days ago... ironic how that exploded seconds after liftoff, and Colombia went minutes before re-entry)
And yes there was 1 Israeli, the first Israeli in space, (imagine Alan Shepherd dieing on the first try) but there were 6 other people on the shuttle, I would like to know why everyone is saying something bout the 1 Israeli but not the other 6 American astronauts?
