I like the new Satyricon, it has a black 'n roll feel to it (much like Entombed's death 'n roll material).
Sure, black n' roll. Fliegenpilz is black n' roll. Some of Burzum's material is black n' roll (Stemmen Fra Taarnet, Lost Wisdom, Det Som Engang Var, En Ring Til Aa Herske, Black Spell of Destruction, Ea, Lord of the Deeps, etc...). Satyricon is just black "metal" minus the intensity and good songwriting. Again, the guitar riffs and numetal pounding sound so mallcore.
There's a difference between metalcore and mallcore; mall core is music marketed towards mallkids. That's all it is. I don't know why people always think it's synonymous with metalcore. Aside from that, mallcore IS NEVER A GOOD THING. It was intended to be an insult, just like numetal. Numetal was an insult tag given to bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit by real metalheads to distinguish it from the real thing. MALLCORE IS A FUCKING INSULT.
All these great old school bands seem to be turning/are already mallcore (well not really CORE, more like mall metal) like Satyricon, Decide, Darkthrone, Cannibal Corpse, Blind Guardian, ect. It's quite interesting, as not all of these bands are bad at all nowadays...hell some still fucking slay. So in my opinion being cool with metalcore/nu-metal fans does not make a band sucky or bad at all, it all just boils down to personal opinion, I suppose.
Hold it right there. Blind Guardian? What weed have you been smoking? I can understand the rest. Mall-anything is never good. That means it's commercial pap marketed towards moneyed suburban teenagers.
However, if you're not listening to something just because it's trendy or mainstream then that's jjust idiotic. Who cares if it's mainstream, if you like it listen to it!
It's not that which I care about. It's the fact that it's MARKETED towards the numetal/metalcore crowd (here they are the same crowd). I guess you can say I hate commercial sounding music; it's boring and usually unoriginal because it's marketed towards a particular group. I don't care if a group got popular BECAUSE of the sound; but if they have that sound TO BE popular, then I usually can't listen to it because it's commercial marketed pap. In essence, if the popularity is the effect, then by all means it's gravy. If greed for popularity is the cause, then it's no good.
