newgrounds greatest audio hits cd?

should i e-mail tom and ask him if it would be possible to make a newgrounds.com greatest audio hits cd? i mean he could make some serious cash on it. of course he would to contact every artist that would be included and make sure that they would waive the royalty idea. maybe he could like pass every artist that would be included like $20 or somethin'. unless of course the artists are willing to let him use the tracks completely free. he could even post a topic about it in the ng news forum so everybody would know what's goin' on.

There have been ideas like this in the forum before. The "NG CD" is a good idea, and it never hurts e-mailing him about it... There have apparently been discussions about starting to sign or in some other way back NG audio artists. But it´s never wrong to set up a plan and e-mail him about it.

i'd definately be up for this
a possiblilty could be to make a series of these, you know, picking out different genres for different cds, plus maybe backing some of the lesser knowns amongst us which includes me, but it'd be great for exposure etc, and it would in my opinion give the ap the same inflence as the fp, put us on an even level so to speak. as we're a very underated part of the site, but the cd thing would be great, what with all the tracks already accounted for, production cost would be cheap, but who's to say there aint someone who owns a cd production uni here? again with advertisement im positive we will have peeps willing to contribute to developing marketing and so on for a smaller amount of cash etc ect.

'cause i'm sure he'd be into the idea but money would be a factor. he'd be sellin' the cds and we'd be gettin' nothin'. so some artists might try to sue him for it. i guess he would just have to have them sign a legal contract stating that the artist's song would only be sold on that album and that the artist gives full permission to use the song free of charge or for an afformentioned fee. i don't know. i'd like more people to tell what they would like to happen if they were included on such a compilation.

i guess it would have to be decided by whoever will decide it if the idea happens. i e-mailed tom just now with a somewhat lenghty e-mail describing the idea and how newgrounds will be able to make money without actually shelling out much and how they will get promotion if they give stickers to the artists that aould be included. hopefully he'll see it as a good opportunity and not as just a crap idea that would fail miserably.

It's a smart idea but it would be too difficult to sort it all out. There is also the greatest issue, the sad simple truth: not even nearly enough people would buy it (Newgrounds fans excluded but there really isn't that many of us) and the costs of production would cripple Tom's pocket. Lovely idea but unfortunatly not.

Yes, these are the major problems:

1. Getting excess money to even create a batch of CDs, and then selling them all within a good frame of time. Take Alien Hominid, sure, it was a hit, but the fact that the merchendise didn't sell was killing Tom and Dan.

2. Copyright laws, if you plan to commercialize the music under the newgrounds label, you'll have to play it safe, which would take a lot of good musicians and songs off the CD.

How about pre-orders. That would work. That way, you cant over-purchase, under purchase, and you can calculate the profit beforehand.

This is a good idea for the future, but i dont believe NG is ready yet. Not enough talent has shined through the massive supernovas that are paragon and bounc3. Not that i'm saying the talent doesnt exist, but people are not aware of it due to these giants.
