Hello Everyone. I have recently been looking for some free or cheap game engines in order to create a video game. I don't want to use flash so I was wondering if anyone has found any 2D/sprite game engines which are customizable to create own characters and story line?
anyways thanks, David

GameMaker appears to be popular from what I've seen on these forums. http://www.gamemaker.nl/

No one takes any value in your opinion. Perhaps you should go re-read that huge thread about the pros and cons of GameMaker and using GML.

Hey sass, I was only saying. People hate gamemaker, and im just letting this kid know what you told him is. I gave him a link to a site with all the engines publicly released (Almost all). So cut your fucking crap.
Who says "sass" anymore. Seriously, you're dumb.

Why dont you want to use flash? Flash is great for what you are trying to do.

Its not free, and I can't vouch for it, because I haven't used it, but it sounds like its a good beginner engine, made for 2D games.

Multimedia Fusion It's not free, but it is very easy to use, and gives you great results. Halo Zero, for example, was made using Fusion Pro.

I don't think is is the most popular. There are a lot of other. For Example, in the past was GamingSource.org. Very good website, but now it closed. Forever :(
