Here is something that's been on my mind for a while. Sprite haters, obviously hate sprites, and they're entitled to there opinion. Most of them say 'they require no skill' or 'the poses are already made for you', now I was wondering. Say a sprite artist made a sprite movie, with every single sprite being 100% custom, making every pose himself from scratch. Would they/you still hate it, or like it?

You have the bear in mind the fact that several people do not like the art style, not necessarily the ripping of sprites. There is a difference ;).

So yes and no, if the person made it clear that they made their own sprites for the movie, or if it is completely obvious and well done, then there might be some turn around by some sprite haters. But overall, given Newgrounds, I am going to have to say it will weigh much more towards sprite haters staying sprite haters.

Ever watched Rokemon ?

I think that guy made some of his own sprites. Look at the score: 4.18. It graced the top 50 of NG for a long while. It had style though, thats what it comes down to.

Super Mario Land IV

This sprite movie is not only used with ONLY premade sprites, it's also in black and white! AND it got a 4.15!

See, anything is possible.

I completely agree with you psycosis,What if someone worked incredibaly hard on a movie, had a brilliant script script, kickass preloader game or something and an overall badass animation. But it was all to do with sprites?! Would you vote a high score,or a low score.cause if you voted low but voted high on a drawn movie that was'nt as good, then that is wrong.Sprite movies can be artistic too you know.

the hatred is derived from people not even trying to really animate the sprites and having the same object either be tween, or not even animated at all. and they typically look like shit. to make people not hate them is generally more trouble than its worth.

Yeah, I guess to some people they're just like a better looking stick animation.

Wee, you're back with nice vocabulary and a lvl 17 glove. :D

The only thing I don't like about flash sprite content is that sprites have huge pixels, and I don't see why some people use huge pixels in flash if flash doesn't use pixels. Big pixels = worse quality, so what's the point?

You can't really have "badass animation" with sprites. Since they're all predrawn, the only thing you can do with them is tweens. In order to have animation that really stands out, you'ld need to do use frame-by-frame....which you can't do with pre-made sprites.

I've seen some people use FBF sprites. The Power Star series is one of them.

Psycosis, if you are worrying about your Pico Movie, don't. It's kickass anyway from the screenies i've seen, and I myself don't usually like sprites :D

Well, I can like spirties quite a lot really, if the movie has a good script and good animation and I can see effort, I don't really care if sprites have been used. Especially if they are obviously custom, that must take some effort.

That's what I say.

I would not hate it at all.

I am a bit of a sprite hater, my main gripe is that a lot of people use them just because they are too lazy to either:
1) make their own sprites if their movie requires a sprite-y look to it
2) draw and animate non-sprite characters

if the movie is a tribute/parody of a video game that features sprites, or is specifically about the character, then I don't have much of a problem with it. I've seen plenty of movies where someone has used sprites from all manner of games and renamed all the characters just because they didn't want to draw their own, when it is nothing to do with that character/game.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a game is worth a play. New game! In AS 3.0. :D

i myself am a sprite hater, it take's no skill because they are predrawn. but if the author draw's there own custom sprites then that changes everything. then it would be practically the same as a normal movie so no, i wouldn't hate it.

Absolutely not. I would praise them. They way I see it sprites are no better than tweening around someome elses artwork. The only thing I have against sprites is that artist is not creating anything, just moving someone elses copyrighted material around.

rofl, don't worry. It was triggered by your reveiw but it's something that been on my mind since Power Star 1 was released and people were bashing it even though it had over 500 custom sprites.

Don't worry, it's all good.

I'm one of those sprite haters. It's stupid I think unless you're using them for parody.

But I'm not holding you back.

lol. Yeah, i hate people who do that, when you dosprites right, it is more work then you can imagine. Having the poses done for you is good and all, but when you need more poses it s super hard to import them, and when you animate, if you want it to look good, almost everything has to be FBF.

I dont see why anyone hates sprite movies. Yes, they are easy to make but they end up looking good dont they? so why would you care. It's an easy way for people who cant draw to make a good animated movei

I hate sprite haters. Sprites are almost as hard, if not equally as hard to animate in flash. Sprite Haters are people who can either do REALLY good drawn flash and think they pwn all, or some idiot n00b who doesn't even know what sprites are.

I love sprites, and they pwn you. That is all there is to say.

I got Mozilla Firefox today..... there are tables on every screen! Its annoying.

most people dont hate sprites, they hate bad sprite game/movies.

there so much crappy ones made by beginners, but then every so often you get a good one, like the metal slug one not so long ago.

same with stick movies really.

Well, first off, I guess I would be called a "sprite hater" since nearly every sprite movie I see recieves a blam. I realize, however, that making sprites takes A TON of effort and is very time-consuming. On the other hand, it requires no SKILL. I don't like awarding someone for something that took no skill, even if it took a long time. Regular Flash can have a shitty storyline and be alright, since the art and animation takes skill. Sprites have to have a VERY GOOD STORYLINE to deserve to be on NG.

That's my 25 cents.

That's a load of bull. It's easy because you haven't got tons of parts to worry about, it's all layed out for you, you don't have to redraw stuff when you need a better angle. It's 10X easier.
