LettuceClock should have known any religious debate on the BBS will result in a flame war and accomplish nothing.

If someone believes in a fairy tell, it's obvious they don't care about logic much, so trying to reason with their beliefs is futile. Just shake your head and talk to those who are willing to listen.

What it should be is people not giving a rats ass about other people's religion. For example, I follow Christianity, but one of my best friends is an Atheist. Do we rip on each other? No. Maybe the occasional joke, but nothing to take offense.

Everyone is atheist to a degree, if you are christian then you are atheist to all other religions. Pure atheists have just gone one further.

Bashing atheism is stupid because atheism is the only faith with any evidence to support it, you would think a true christian would feel sorry for atheists if they are so misguided, not hate them. Christians just bash it because they are afraid it might be right and dont want to believe it. Atheists are afraid of religion because of what it turns people into.

Some questions for the christians:

At what point did god create dinosaurs? or did he?

How are you sure that your religion is right, and others are wrong? Would god forgive people that followed the wrong religion and let them into heaven anyway?

Did noah put every sub species of animal on his ark, and why did they not eat each other? Are we all descendants from Noah?

If we all descended from adam and eve (and/or noah), and if evolution doesnt exist, then why are we different colours?

When god was creating the universe, who was watching to then write about it later? or did he tell Adam and Eve about what he did?

How come snakes can no longer talk? Was this a punishment by god?

Where is the garden of eden? was it supposed to be on earth? or on another plain of existence?

I'm not having a go with these questions, I would just like to know what people believe....?

I'm an Athiest, and I never ever get bashed. Maybe because I don't tell many people, not that I'm ashamed or anything, if anything I'd be proud, but it's not usually something you'd just tell someone, unless they asked your views on religion.

I think people who do believe in some higher power tend to forget the state of mind of an Athiest.

I'm saying that because some people, when you tell them that you are an Athiest, usually ask me "Well, how did the world come into existence then?" and things like "But how can you worship something then?".

They seem to forget that it's not about that.

My view on the matter right now is that people think too much about why the world is here. Let's consider this.. It just is. Don't ask any questions, maybe you weren't meant to know. If believing a Religion calms you, maybe makes you feel better about facing the subject of death, and you think that it is right, that's fine. Maybe everybody finds out the truth. There's a good chance also that you never will, or noone will. And maybe that's the way it's meant to be.

Thanks for those, I'm not sure all christians agree with all of those. The things that seem strange to me: The fact "that you believe in a god is the important thing", firstly not all religions believe in just one god, or any gods at all. Also religions often have strict ways of doing things in life, if catholics dont do something a certain way, then thye are going to hell, surely this means that other religions must be doing thing the wrong way?

Also I have heard before "Much of the OT is alegorical and not literal", the problem is, how much of it is alegorical and how much is literal? Lots of people have different ideas about this, some believe noahs ark was real, some dont, some think the garden of eden was a metaphor, some people think the whole of genesis is a metaphor for the big bang and evolution...

2 - We started out as a simple chemical process that evolved through many many reactions to form a species known as a human.

Also, if you want to talk about the creation of the universe.

Science has proven that combining anti-matter with matter creates an explosion which creates more matter and anti-matter which is similar to the big bang theory.

Now that, is makes the bang theory a lot more reasonable than an eternatal god just creating everything out of nowhere because...well they never really tell you that do they?

The thing is is that many athiests I know (on the BBS, at least) attack religion. I'm an athiest and have many deeply religious friends because we go about with an attitude of "I believe what I believe, you believe what you believe." However, in the BBs I often see, "Religion is stupid!! Athiests are right!" I'm sure if athiests like that chilled out a little, then the rest of us wouldn't catch so flak.
