evp's and weird stuff in music...

i was interested in knowing how many other users in the audio portal used evp's and weird stuff in their submissions. the reason i am asking is because i have noticed in the past few years that the majority of music on here is done with fruity loops, etc.
most of the music i have done over the years has been on played outboard equipment and remixed on the pc. with the exception of evp's i have recorded in cemeteries, among other noises.
anymore, it's almost a impossible to find people who experiment with different instraments and natural sounds. it's all digitized(sterilized).

i try to make stuff with lots of weird crap in it. the only problem is that everytime i think i got somethin' golden it turns out to be shite. oh well. keep tryin' i guess.

some of my favorite things to put into music is backwards drumbeats, evp's, recordings of broken glass, insect sounds etc.
the only problem is getting them to flow with everything in the track itself.

if you listen to "A Breath of Fresh Water" no actual drums were used in the first section;
I think there's a slinky, an empty glass, a tabletop, a chairpad, and... jeez, I don't even remember...
but I even had someone thinking I had sampled african drum rhythms...
so my mission was complete...
later on, though, the drums are from my electronic pad...
I think it's my favorite of my older songs...
...no sequencing or anything like that, though...

i am glad to see people sharing their thoughts on different sounds they use in music. i have read in the forums many times how people hate the same topics over and over. the whole point of this was to dicuss alternate ways of making music instead of the same old fruity loops stuff. not that electronic music is bad. hell i love it, and am guilty of making it. i just wanted people to talk about different styles and sounds/noise they enjoyed using.
by the way, broken bottles and slamming trashcan lids can make a mean drum track.

actually the sound of a dentists drill and broken glass could have potential.
as for hitting someone, make sure you have her permission. not for recording, but for hitting her. get it in writing too!

Anyways, you can make music out of anything, but the most irritating thing I find is when musicians will be all "I'm gonna make a song out of this and this and it's gonna rule ^_^" and then not do it, trying to impress IDM'ers and artists with less music software knowledge.

Yes. It would be just a recording of rain with some tree frog chirps thrown in. I'd have someone review it and call it "artful irony."

I haven't used found sounds yet in recording.

I intend to though. I've even used them in pieces that I never ended up recording. (like usinbg steel stairs as a percussive instrument).

As for using tapes, I like to tape something, then tape the recording and add anotrher layer and it ends up a horrible screeching sound at the end.

In fact, one of my submissions was a computer error that I had recorded.

I am very interested in found sounds, I especially love it when artists use recorded speech in their shows.

i dont care what people make music out of as long as that music makes. I song made out voices records would awsome if some did a good job on it not some crap job done in 15 minutes. Any music is still music regardless of what its made of.

i agree with bigbadbassist. music is music. you can't please everyone. the way the music sucks in the mainstream these days, you could probably bash yourself in the nuts with a ballpeen hammer and record it. it would be an underground 'hit.' you could call it 'deez hurtin nutz. '

i appreciate the compliments. the reason i submitted what i did was to let others enjoy them to. the weird shit i make is not for everyone. as a rule i don't bash others about their music, but i really would like to see more originality on here and elsewhere. it's a damn shame that some only create art to win a popularity race.
when you make something yourself that you love, whether you use the recording of a train wreck, or a wet fart, it is more satisfying.
