I really want to know... what the definition of a noob is... cause some times i get called noob by level 9s when im a level 8, when level 6s and 7s call level 5s noobs.... i just want to know the truth! I think we should settle this once and for all what the definition of a noob is... so there will be no more confusion! Just a simple vote... what level do you go from noob to manhood... or what other characteristics define you as non noob.

well some people will call everyone at a lower level than them a n00b...they do this because they're insecure..no big deal it makes them feel cooler.

I think a noob is anyone who seems like they have not taken the time to learn more about NG, its history, clans, inside jokes etc. I also think that a person that acts like a total dick all the time, makes an ass of himself and generally makes the overall climate of the community uncomfortable or hostile may also be classified as a noob. By the way, not to be mean or anything but asking what makes you a noob also seems a bit noobish.

someone who does you last reason for being a noob (asshole, being a diick is wrong) you are a person who scars this word with its false meaning, wait tilldirmarki gets here he knows the real definition (HE HAS POSTED IT TWICE NOW!), but i tend to call people under level 9-10 noobs because they still have that new person sorta thing and when they go past that big xp boost it proved they have the time and effort to get on and do sme voting.
People who dont know howto vote are also noobs as in newbie to the site.

Hey now, hold on there phantom. That last part was just my opinion. But you got to admit that people who are jerks just for the sake of being jerks can be just as annoying as someone who has no idea what is going on.

Yes, I did post it twice and this will be the third time...hopefully Wade doesn't delete my posts because of triple posting or something like that. The original reply can be found in here.
Newbies, by definition, means someone new to something. However, many times I have seen this meaning being altered. In games, newbies now mean "unskilled". The reason why they think like that is if they are new, then they haven't played for long enough and therefore unskilled. That's why new term, 1337 (elite) also went out, meaning "skilled". That's why in games you can see people calling "Yea, I beat you, I'm so 1337!" and things like that. It has degraded so that 1337 is a praise and newbie (n00b) became an insult.
Same with NG, although in NG the meaning has altered even more. People generally call other people n00bs if they say stupid comments. The reason is that when they are newbie, they don't know a lot of things, so they either ask stupid questions or make stupid comments. So it really has nothing to do with levels, because the meaning has altered. It is now more of an insult to people who are acting idiotic.

I say every level can be a noob. As I have stated before, a noob is a person who makes stupid comments or questions. Even a high level person might make questions like "how do I get a blam/protection point, I don't know because I only voted five times every day on the movies in Top 50 all the time". Since that is a question that is asked when people don't know about NG very well, that high level person can be called a noob.
Do not generalize noobs with levels. I can create another account right now. That other account will obviously have joined date as today and level 1. Does that mean my other account is noob? I don't think so. Whether I use this account or other account it is still me. If you were to imagine all the posts that I have done is done by level 1, does that makes you think that I am a noob? No. That is wrong because all the comments that I have made is not something stupid.
You need proof? Look at PyROmAnIAc30. He is level 2, but I would never call him a noob.

Any policy that ever inclued the words "no questions asked", unless it has to do with returning merchandise, is utter crap.
Complete, utter crap.
For instance, I've been on NG for far longer than my account would seem. I finally got an account in mid-november, after getting cable internet, so that I could make use of it.

I think rating n00bs by level is inaccurate. Maybe they have had other accounts before?
I'm L9, but I've been on NG for a LONG time. Can't remember when I was idlely surfing the net, and just found their Kill Pikachu game. I was hooked...
How long ago was that... I remember when a game called Street Life was #1. Xiao Xiao had yet to come, dress up games where unheard of. My favorite movie back then was BlunderCats, and Chinese Restarant (when it had the song with it) was a close second...
A world without Clocks...

Look-
I understand that many people are filled with the urge to be "hip" and "cool" by using silly, made-up words and lingo, like "OMG! UR SUCH A n00b! ROTFLMAO! This site is totally gr8, it r0x0rs!!"
To that, I reply-
WTF?
What the fuck is the internet doing to the English language? Internet slang terms are fine, as that's a trademark of culture, I guess, but it's really getting out of hand. This entire counter-culture that has sprung up uver the intended use of the stupid, made-up pseudo-word "n00b" has gone far enough. Isn't this all just a little bit asinine? I remember the good ol' days of the internet, when you had to call somebody a "Newbie" or, God forbid, an "inexperienced user".
Please tell me that my future does not involve a bunch of pre-pubescent teens sitting around, discussing the meaning of a fake motherfucking word, and using thier new "hip internet lingo" to make other people feel stupid because they don't spend hours debating over it's meanings.
So, let's just stick to what Drimarki said, because he sounds old-school, he gives a fair, meaningful definition to it, and he certainly appears to KNOW WHAT THE FUCK HE'S TALKING ABOUT!
Thanks.

Proof positive that the intellectual standards of the internet are fast going south.
Have fun in Fantasy Land, where this post will make damn sure you don't look like a "n00b".

This epidemic is not just affecting the English language. When I go to some Korean site, many times they use internet slang terms that I don't understand. In fact, I have to read each word carefully to interpret, it almost seems like I'm reading an alien language. So we know that this internet slang term is not just affecting the English, but internationally. It might make you cool by saying "06/\/\ /\/\3 50 1337!!1111" but most of the people don't understand it and have to interpret what they are talking about. Why bother saying it when the people you are saying it to does not understand it?

Well, it differs over which one you are talking about. If you are talking about the definition of n00b, then no, you shouldn't post this in politics forum, as it has nothing to do with politics. However, if you are talking about the usage of internet slangs, then that might be a good topic. The usage of internet slangs are affecting our society. I mean, one of my classmates keeps saying "leet! leeeeeet!" whenever the clock in our school reaches 13:37. Since the politics forum is more like society forum, I would say that that would make a good topic.

I'm still a newbie according to my level. But I've probably been on NG longer then most of you, I actually had an account that I signed up for about 3 days after grounds gold was put it. (Lost it though becasue my account was to my AOL account e-mail, and when I dropped AOL I couldn't remember my password and lost the e-mail. ~sniff~ I miss Myhamp, I only had like 60 grounds gold)
Anyway, does this still make me a n00b? I don't know as each person has their own definition, I don't regard myself as a newbie, but to each his own I guess.

You're neither. If someone (as of late) calls you a n00b or newbie it's probably because they're looking for attention (unless you specifically pissed them off). Personally, I have a dislike for Neotrance_Ice due to the fact he usually posts or replies in a negative manner.

Isn't it because every end of his post he says something that denounces Canada? Such as "Nuke Canada!" or "Fuck Canada!" and all those kinds of stuff.

Correct Drimarki. He usually posts a topic like 'Punch a Canadian in the head day' or 'Kick a Canadian in the shin day'. From what I've read he's definitely one of many shit disturbers on the BBS. By the way Drimarki, I see you've switched over to neutral. Nice choice.

You know something spancker, I believe you.
Anger can be a potent source of fuel if you channel it properly.
