A company called Scan made my computer for me from scratch (cause I wouldnt have a clue where to begin) I asked for a gaming machine. They kitted it out with a pretty good graphics card, a 3 gig pentium 4 and so on. (This was nearly 2 years ago now)

yet they felt the need to give it 512k RAM...and charged me £1300 (nearly £2500) for it...

I got oblivion the other day, I have the recommended set-up for my machine...on everything but RAM, which means I can barely run it, and it still lags heavily in places.

Anyone else have stories about computer firms pulling one over on you in the hopes you'll upgrade with them later for MORE money?

It'll cost you £30 to double your RAM, and RAM is easy enough to install yourself.

Scan = big mistake.

You might want to try (next time) CCL (based in Leeds) or Novatech (based I don't know where)

Both are good. CCL is a trade place open to the public, and Novatech make some pretty nifty machines.

My experience with Scan was very poor. My Dad's Pc is from them, and they didn't even connect up the USB ports on the front of the case (!!!), costing me 5 hours trawling the internet for wiring diagrams and info as Scan couldn't tell me what order the pins connected up.

OMG they did the same for me, they sold me a computer that they charged extra for 6 USB ports, and only connected the 2 at the back >.<

Novatech is based in Portsmouth, just look at the bottom of the page and it has a address.
