Why do people who were alive in the 80's always say "Our music was so much better than your music!"

Nobody has yet seemed to realize the line between fact and opinion. Most people who say this have heard about 6 songs that have come out after '92, yet they seem to think they had is so much better when they've only really heard what gets played on the radio?

I could go off on a tangent about how much I hate synthy 80's music like Journey, Asia, and Blondie, but it wouldn't mean the music was talentless and bad. It'd probably also bew misinformed, as I've only heard what I have.

Why does it seem like 5 people in the world realize this?

VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Music in the 80's sucked ass, because it was all about hair and synthesizers and not about *gasp* ROCK AND ROLL.

Jessie is a friend,
Yeah, I know he's been
A good friend of mine
But lately something's changed
That ain't hard to define
Jessie's got himself a girl
And I want to make her mine
And she's watching him with those eyes
And she's lovin' him with that body,
I just know it
Yeah 'n' he's holding her in his arms late,
Late at night

You know, I wish that I had Jessie's girl,
I wish that I had Jessie's girl
Where can I find a woman like that
I play along with the charade,
there doesn't seem to be a reason to change
You know, I feel so dirty
When they start talking cute
I wanna tell her that I love her,
But the point is probably moot
'Cos she's watching him with those eyes
And she's lovin' him with that body,
I just know it
And he's holding her in his arms late, late at night

Like Jessie's girl,
I wish that I had Jessie's girl
Where can I find a woman,
Where can I find a woman like that
And I'm lookin' in the mirror all the time,
Wondering what she don't see in me
I've been funny,
I've been cool with the lines
Ain't that the way
Love supposed to be
Tell me, where can I find a woman like that

[Solo]

You know, I wish that I had Jessie's girl,
I wish that I had Jessie's girl
I want Jessie's girl,
Where can I find a woman like that, like
Jessie's girl,
I wish that I had Jessie's girl,
I want,
I want Jessie's girl

Think about it... probably the only things they have heard are what could be considered the "best" songs of that era. Today, they hear every sort of rubbish broadcast.

I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks that the 80s were great is a deluded moron. The 80s were a wallowing pit of despair with few redeeming factors.

True there is SOME good stuff out now . . . but most of what we hear is crap. I mean if you turn on mtv (or mtv 2 i guess I dunno I don't get either) or muchmusic 90% of what you hear is shitty ass britney spears Kelly Clarkson pop type stuff or else craphole 50 cent rap or stupid Usher type stuff. Back then they actually had variety on mtv, playing everything not just what gangsters and powerpuff teenagers listen to.

plus the 80's had the raddest metal and Hard Rock.

That's because the 60s and 70s were cool... but there was like a coolness blackout in the 80s and everyone would rather forget that time period. Yeah maybe my childhood was in the 80s, but I quickly adapted to the 90s in my teen years.

There's some good shit from the 80s. Like Nine Inch Nail's first album came out in 89. Skinny Puppy was in the 80s. Metallica was much better during the 80s than anytime later. Megadeth, another good band from the 80s. AC/DC... another good band.

Basically what bothered me about the 80s is what was mentioned before. The hair bands and too much hair spray, synthesizers and music vocals seemed to all have this crappy echo on them.

The most shitty thing out of the 80s.... anyone remember Winger?

80's people.

100% of cool entertaining things came straight from the 80's ( 1977-1993).

I'm stretching the decade, but seriously.

Starting with Star Wars, ending with Army of Darkness.
Its been a while since I watched anything cool. These days, everything is too perfect. It sucks. Special effects are not interesting anymore, and everyone is afraid to be laughed at so they make retarded action movies that concentrate on the special effects instead of how fucking stupid they actualy are.

The 80s had no shame. No fucking shame at all. God did it ever spawn a lot of shit. But it also spawned just about everything you enjoy: popularised Internet, the Simpsons, Seinfeld, timless classics like the first Star Wars trilogy, Terminator, Robocop, Predator, Horror Movies, Evil Dead.

And the explosion of bands like Queen, Bon Jovi, Asia, Judas' Priest, Metalica/Pantera-- hell 100% of metal.

Plus video games, computers that worked, rise of Anime, cartoons, Kool-Aid.

the list is endless. THE 80'S WERE FUCKING AWESOME FOR THE ENTERTAINEMENT BUSINESS.

Who gives a shit about politics and all that crap, they're not relevant anymore except in history class and to those fags who say "we need to know the past so we don't repeat the mistakes of the future" like it was actualy true.

ANYWAYS.

'80's music deffinatly had more energy. Although most good bands were in the '70s (Such as Van Halen, Steve Miller, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Pink Floyd, ect.). Most of witch had a good chuck on their carrier in the '80s. Most '80s bands are steriotyped as hairy and cheesy and such, when really that was just a few types of music (Hair metal, and most '80s pop).

I think '80s music was better then the bullshit Green Day, Rap, and Punk wannabes we have today, because back then MTV was used for exposure, rather then just an excuse to make money off corporate labels.
