He is also only 17 (or 18).
And he definately stops being a bell end around the end of disc 2.

As soon as I read that, I faintly remembered part of the story that explained why he acted that way. I truly did forget from not having played the game for all this time. I do remember him opening up later on too, but during the beginning he's still a prick :p

Totally agreed on that. To be honest as we talk about this, I'm coming to appreciate FF8 a little bit more, I like it that it's essentially a love story that's driven by character development.

But in terms of plot, I don't think FFX can be beat.

I accidentally missed the General enemy in the Magitek factory. Only place to find him until WoR I think, and if I got to him I could've put Cura on Gau. FUUUUUUU

I agree. It's a very beautiful story.

In terms of characters I think IX pips it though.

Playing the original FF for no reason whatsoever. What should my party be?

Nothing stupid like 4 of the same party. Just go for White Mage, Black Mage, Black Belt and Fighter.

For a regular playthrough of FFI, all 4 of the same party isn't something to go for. However, it's appropriate for a challenge and it's something I should try out sometime. Also, I prefer Red Mage over Black Belt.

I mostly just want to hack my way through the game out of boredom, actually. I was thinking Fighter-Fighter-Fighter-Red Mage but I want to hear what you guys use.

What made me love FFVIII the most was the fact that you go to places you would never expect for silly reasons which turn out to be rather epic, nothing like Lunatic Pandora... is that how you spell it?

Esthar was a pretty awesome city. And I liked the idea of Fisherman's Horizon. Also, FF8 had the best airship ever!

Gotta agree with you with VIII having the best airship. Though it did suck once you went though the portal and all you could do was run around that god forsaken wasteland and castle.

Never beat Omega either, never going to. Screw making all those holy wars. >: (

Yeah, it was a bastard once all the towns and cities had the barrier around them and you couldn't go in >:( But you could get the airship back if i remember correctly, you had to get a chocobo that could get there or something along those lines.....it's been atleast 5 or 6 years since my last playthrough.....too long.

I think Omega was quite easy compared to say....Ruby weapon.

Ragnarok is indeed awesome but Balamb Garden as an airship? I still hated having to use a school as a crappy airship for half of discs 2 and 3.

This is why I hate disc 4 of FFVIII as well as what Life-Stream explained about having to ride a goddamn chocobo to get back to the airship. Also, limitations on where you could go made me sad.

I've beaten him once, so I'm grateful I don't have to worry about trying to kill him sometime. Although Omega and Shinryu from FFV, Penance and Yiazmat on the other hand, still need to take them down sometime and last time I tried to beat Penance I got unlucky and lost after spending an hour for that one battle. :(

Refining Angelo gives you 100 Holy Wars.

Sod making them yourself.
Though I've never beaten Omega for the simple reason that I can't bring myself to refine a card and then have an incomplete collection.

I thought it was quite an interesting idea. Atleast the FMV of how it came out of the ground was pretty damn awesome.

Also, limitations on where you could go made me sad.

Yeah, there were only a few places you could visit on disc 4, which was annoying, because the only thing you could really do was level up and a few mini quests, but it would have been alot better if you could visit all towns.

It also kinda gets on my nerves how people moan about disc 4.
Just don't go into Lunatic Pandora if you want to continue doing other stuff. It's really that simple.

And it's not like theres nothing to do on disc 4, there is an entire castle to explore, tonnes of boss fights and a nice hefty ending sequence.

Loaded up FF9 recently. Last time I played it was before PS2 was even released, so yeah, it's been a while. I remember not really liking it at the time...

... And nothing has really changed. I'm on disk 3 now and still feel no real connection to the characters, other than Vivi. It's a decent game, but nothing spectacular. Still better than 10 though, since I friggin' hated 10.

The first time you play through the game, you don't know that, so you don't expect to not be able to go to any town.

Sure, but all that can be done in a few hours. I was expecting loads of stuff to do and find throughout the world like in FF7.

For someone who doesn't like it you're certainly playing it enough :P.
Most of the characters in IX aren't meant for connecting with. Its only really Zidane, Garnet and Vivi (and Eiko and Freyja at a stretch) that are people you can really care about. The others are just cartoony additions to a fun world.

And Kuja is a fantastic enemy.

Also you're wrong for not liking it.
And you're wrong for not liking X either ;).

First time, sure. I agree, it was annoying. But none of us are noobs here, we know what to expect now.

Even if disc 4 had been packed with stuff I still reckon VII would give you more hours of play, there is just a ridiculous amount of stuff in that game.

Of course. When you replay the game you know what to expect, and know that if you have to do some mini quest or something, than you should do it before disc 4. They should still atleast give some warning or something. Like 'Once we go into the future you won't be able to visit any cities, are you sure you want to go now'.

Or maybe they did and i just can't remember.

Even if disc 4 had been packed with stuff I still reckon VII would give you more hours of play, there is just a ridiculous amount of stuff in that game.

You're right, there is so much to do in that game. I liked all the little bits and bobs you had to do to get ultimate weapons and ultimate Materia.

Did anyone else here get Cid Highwinds highest attack power weapon? (Not the Venus Gospel)

Nupe. I think you can get one of Cid's weapons in the sunken ship that had triple materia points. And the Venus Gospel that you get from the old man in rocket town is always listed as his ultimate weapon on websites and guides.

One time i was playing through, i was wasting a few hours on the Speed ride at the gold saucer, trying to get highscores and the special prizes you get for 2000+ points. One special prize i got was something called flayer. I opened up the menu and went to the items list to see it was a lance for Cid, and it had 100 attack compared to Venus Gospels 97 attack.

Every other time i've played through i've tried to get it with no luck. So i'm thinking it's quite rare to get that prize.

Wait wait. I just googled it to be sure, and it turns out that you need to get more than 5000 points in the speed game to get it. I must have got that much :D

It has 6 single materia slots, but normal growth. The Venus Gospel has 4 double slots and no materia growth like the other characters ultimate weapons.
