Death Sentence 2003-01-22 13:58:40 Reply

I guess there might be already some threads like this, but I'd like to know what NG people think about death sentence.
Personally I'm against death sentence, it's also that I live in a country where it isn't practised - and we do good without it.
But what's your opinion?

I think that there is no use for the death sentence. I mean, do you think people won't kill anyone just because they know they could get fried in the elctric chair, or slowly stop breathing in the gas chamber? Such medieval techniques don't earn a place in the community of this time.

I don't believe that it's ever going away. Some people commit such cold hearted crimes, that you wonder if they deserve to live at all.

And thats where old smokey comes in...

Don't try thatt holier then thou, I don't believe the death sentence solves anything SHIT. If some dude got fried for littering, would ne1 ever litter again???

Yes, people would litter again. It has been widely proven that the death penalty is not a deterrant for crime. States where it has been put into place, crime levels have not dropped. Where it has been taken out, crime levels have not risen.

Thats because the crimes of those who get the chair are rather high level, and in order to commit them, the subject would have already long departed his mind from logic...

How many people blew up buildings before Tim Mcvey (SP), and how many after? Comparing the difference between blowing up building rates and littering rates after each has someone but to death is futile...

Hmmm well personally I think that the dealth penalty should be in place but used in a conservitive manner for serial killers and such. Its used to often for someone who committed just one murder. They should rot in jail for life. Besides its cheaper! Just a funny thing I noticed is that conservatives stand for the death penalty and are against abortion and liberals are for abortion and against the death penalty. kinda hypocritical

It is illegal for a person to kill,
yet it is legal for the state to kill.

The state is created by the people for the people.

Therefore the state should be accountable to the same laws as others.

Thats just my ideology, but I like it :)

I LOVE IT! I think we can do great things with it. And byt he way let's Commercialize. Let's bring back fucking Crucifiction! It's a deat secntece Jews and Christians can really apretiate. We can have Crucifictions at the Monday night football. Would you not love to here Dan Rather explain why the nails have to go in at a certain angle? Or how about beheadings. Slow motion instant replay. We can have it roll into one of 5 numbered holes, so the adience can gamble on it.

That is a GREAT idea, DarkCrystal.
Except he means not to hold the state accountable, but make it's laws have to stay within it's laws. So the state can't say killing illegal, and then when someone kills someone, they kill them. Then the state is just as bad.

I definately disagree with the death penalty. People say they want justice, yet what they truely seek is revenge. If I were murdered I wouldnt be able to live with knowing someone died because of me, especially if wrongfully accused. Hah that's funny, how would I live with it if i were dead! On the other hand,If I had committed the crime I would rather die in an electric chair than an eight by eleven cell. And from what I hear jail is terrible; the food is bad, your someones bitch and theres a great risk of being stabbed by a tooth brush. Ya think Timothy Mcveigh didnt know the consequences? If someone told him Tim, if you do this you are going to be charged with the death penalty he would laugh in there face and shoot them. Hell, he got all the mint chocolate chip ice cream. On further note, the death penalty is a stupid system full of false convictions.

I think it gives d government way too much power over d rights of d individual. Wats next, sentencing instead of a trial, screw d individual if its good for the majority

i think that whatever the person did he shoule have it done back to him like the unibomber he should have been put in a sehd and tied down to a chair and blindfolded and have the sound of bombs ticking all around him and have him so scared and never know when the bombs wil go off. and then when he leasts expects it have some fireworks in the back ground just to have him shit his pants and then have the real bombs go off and kill him after he's had years to think about what he did and go crazy. that way poeple will maybe think about what they do before they do it

Your an idiot. They dont care if they get caught, theyre insane. Do you think Timmothy McVeigh didnt know he would die by lethal injection or some sort of death penalty? And if he did do you think he cared?

Ya see, what they should do, for example if there is a case of child molestation, the punishment for the accuser should be having locked a criminal is a home with a woleverine high on Angel dust and viagra. Another thing is for terrorists they should throw people off the empire state building and where he lands in a certain area wins the publisher's clearing house.

Ohh yea, Praise Jesus

Actually, if anyone who is Christian, read the Bible and definitely know that the nowadays laws comes from old testament Bible. Exo to Deut. the laws are set by GOD. it's definitely do us good.

A life for an life, that's what the death sentence is for.

The crime which i'm talking about is murder.

I mean if a person who decides to murder, he or she will definitely know it is wrong even a young kid know that it's bad to end one's life.

furthermore, it takes courage and strong determination to make murder works. and definitely the murderer is a someone who has to blame for. he doesn't kill someone out of accident. he has a sane mind and full of determination to end the person life with his own hands without telling anyone. he wanted his enemy to be dead.

and hence, he's should receive a fair judgement from the judge for what he had done. that is death.

Of Course George Carlin should be the president. Thats where all my material is at. If you don't know who he is the cardinal on "dogma" and the hitchhiker on Jay and Silent Bob.

Sure..sure..the death sentence somehow costs more than putting a prisoner in for life but what about the families? What about if your family or who u cared about was massacred by some jack off who thinks hes got it bad....and u know he gets to live on while ur loved on rots in the ground.
