Do you mean hot food as in spicy hot? Or hot food as in burning hot?

It will blister the roof of your mouth before you'll ever hurt your taste buds in that way. Your tongue is a huge thick layer of muscle and skin, whereas the roof of your mouth is a very thin and tightly stretched layer of skin. So even though the food will hurt, you do more damage to other spots besides your tongue first.

I know because I've blistered the roof of my mouth many times. It isn't fun.

I enjoy hot food in the sense it is food cooked, like a pizza or hamburger. Occassionally, I'll get spicy hot food because that stuff is mad good. I always love burning my throat and then washing down all kinds of juice to cool it down. Great taste. As for the taste buds, if they're growing back as said by the others in this topic, I have nothing to worry about.

If you mean hot as in spicy then no, that can't hurt you very much, but your specific taste buds for spice will numb over time.

Hot-as in temperature-foods can burn your mouth, but really only if you had some ridiculously hot thing in your mouth for an extended period of time.

Do you mean spicy hot, or burning hot?

Anyways, your taste buds regrow about every 2 weeks, so don't worry.
