What are you specifically afraid in this whole Iraq mess? Saddam? Chemical weapons? It's not Iraq that bothers me it's North Korea and their threats against the US.

I'm afraid that Bush is going to start World War 3. IMO attacking Iraq isn't going to accomplish anything.

I don't think the smallpox mass vaccines are necessary. It's just showing our paranoia. Plus if they even had smallpox, they know not to use it now and have probably found some other nasty disease to chuck at us.

anyone read the Onion recently, apparently the leader of North Korea has the ability to turn into a giant mecha robot. Now that's something to worry about.

I'm afraid that the motion to reinstitute the draft might pass, causing myself and almost everyone I know to be pulled out of classes and a very prospective life in order to go fight in a stupid war over who can piss the furthest (because let's face it, it all boils down to that in these kinds of issues) and if it were avoided would more than likely NOT threaten the standard of living here in the United States anyway. Other countries, probably...but hell, why should we jump in? Isreal hates Sadaam too, and they could kick his ass alone.

I am afraid that this war will cause further unrest in the Middle east and continue to destablise the most volatile region of the world.

Hey people, just so you know, the govt does not take anyone out of college for the draft. If you are a college student, you CAN drop out to join up when you get your draft number pulled, BUT you can just show that you are a college student in good standing and they will defer you until after you graduate OR you can join up voluntarily and the college will hold your classes and credits and financial aid and other relevant things at their current levels until you return or they are notified of your death. The only exception is if you decide to take a couple of years after your service to return to the school.

...do you have to be going for your bachellor's? Because frankly, if it keeps me out of war, guess who's going for a Masters, PHD, post graduate work, law school, med school...

That I can't answer. I do believe that if you are currently a full time student, they can't draft you, but I am not an expert on it. I was just involved in a discussion about it a few years ago, and by discussion I mean a debate coverig several days where people at work were bringing in books to prove their point and that kind of thing.

The info was mostly from the Vietnam era because that was the last draft that actually took place.
Anyhoo, I wouldn't worry about it too much, we have more than enough volunteers to win any war with the middle east, technology makes one man in a plane fight like a thousand on the ground. The only thing we really need foot soldiers for is really interpersonal fighting and, of course, holding territory.
Special forces are probably the ultimate example of the first part and the national guard does a great job of the second.

What am I afraid of?

Well, I suppose that would be that American troops will be so busy in the Middle East that North Korea will build The Bomb unimpeded. I mean, look at the situations in either country: Iraq is a land that has little resources, poorly trained armies, and few weapons. They couldn't perform any attack on America if they wanted to. Now Korea, on the other hand, is working on The Bomb, because they have the materials to do so. And so far our government has merely scolded North Korea for trying to build It.

And at what point did I bash america in my post?

I said I am afraid this war will destablise the region further.

Where did I actually mention the US? being against the war does not instantly qualify me as being against the US
