Ok so I'm thinking about putting some sort of jukebox on my website that I can easily add new music into it. How would I go about doing something like that? Php? I know I have to create some sort of interface too but I'm not sure how to do that either. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A real dukebox? As in everyone who goes to your site hears the exact same music and they can like request a song after? That'd be quite hard, SQL and PHP would be your best bets to do that with though. If you just wanted a music player people can listen to you could use flash to display and play and XML to get the songs. Google for some tutorials or be more specific. Theres literally thousands of ways of doing what you want :D

No, people won't request songs like a radio station, I'll add them and they can be shuffled at random or they can be shut off depending on the user. I see flash players quite a bit but seeing as I don't possess flash, it's kinda hard to do that.

I'm bumping only because I was looking for tutorials and all I got were flash based tutorials, bleh! I don't have flash on my computer and I'm not going to download the trial because that doesn't give me any time to really play with it and get the hang of it. If anyone else has suggestions on building a player, say javascript (beyond the basic windows media player looking thing) where I can have the title and artist of the song displayed in the actual player, that'd be great because I'm stuck.

The proper way to do this is definitley Flash.

You can easily load mp3 files with ActionScript, and then just play them. The cool thing is it works in all browsers.

It is fairly easy to create one like the one mySpace uses.

That's kinda what I want but like I said, I don't own a copy of flash, so I'm looking for alternative ways to do it :/

Hey I just found the perfect thing for you!

Check this out: http://www.bicubica...ubica_mp3_player.php
it's awesome.

It's a Flash mp3 player, but you do not need to have Flash to use it (only Flash player, of course)

Just download it and read the instructions and it tells you exactly how to use it.

Hope this helps!

Thanks! This is a start. I hope it's customizable though because it's kind of ugly lol.

I actually found this just now. I'm not sure about how I'd integrate it into my site but it's very nice. They have a version for php & mysql and a version that all you have to do is have the music uploaded somewhere on the net. They also have a stream cast where you can just stick it on your site and they stream the music but unfortunately that's not done yet). Here's the link.

I've made these before. If you want to make a design for the interface in photoshop or something, I could probably stick in a flash file for you and code up the player. It would just read a directory for sound files and pick one to play.

I set up a neat Flash client that listened to my SHOUTcast server once. Being that the SHOUTcast (and icecast) stream format is mp3, it was able to be interpreted by Flash. I had to do quite a few secutiry workarounds, but I eventually got it working pretty well. I'll see if I can dig up my old files for this because it's a really neat alternative if you ever want to get into it.
