You do know that a site like that will start real slow. At least 6 months before any action, 2 years before any good regular visits.
That's with no marketing. If you don't market a product properly, of course no one will use it. They won't be able to find it. They won't even know it exists. And marketing isn't necessarily expensive either. Often, it's free.
The key to social networking is people (but I'm sure you already figured that out). Get enough people to sign up, they'll get their friends to sign up, who will get their friends to sign up, and so on and so forth. Myspace started out with a handful of bands and their fans and grew into one of the most visited websites on the internet.
But the problem with Myspace is that it's computer system is critically flawed, due mainly to the fact it's a pile of shit. Slow, unrespsonsive, and in a constant state of update is not a good design for any system, especially one that resides on such an overwhelmingly popular website.
And that's without me mentioning that its only feature that sets it apart from the hundreds of similar websites is the friends list (which, frankly, required the same amount of inspiration and innovation as two-ply toilet paper).
I've just realised I've gone and ranted about the inadiquicy of Myspace instead of talking about marketing. Sorry about that.
