The movie assumes you will take V's side, because he is fighting the good fight against the evil facist government. But, that government is portrayed as being run by slobbering, obese, homophobic kiddie-fiddlers. How the hell is the audience supposed to hate the facist state, when it's so completely un-believeable? The Wachowski brothers, when the wrote the script for this movie, mush have belived we are all morons who would prefer flashy explosions and knife-fights to investigation of real totalitarianism: control and alteration of language, education and history. Problem is, theres a lot of retards who will take this movie seriously.

Anyway, just because something existed beforehand does not mean it wasn't adapted when the directors-in this case, the Wachowski brothers-decided to take it to the big screen. It happens almost every time.

Also one of the reasons that V for vendetta got a band now - while the movie still was shooting - was that they actually making a subway-scene in London around the time terrorist attacked a couple of subways in London as well.

A fun fact: the story has already been written in the begin of the '90. Even before the Matrix was written - while the Matrix and V for vendetta has been written by the same brothers.
I haven't seen V for vendetta yet; but seeing the trailer/images/etc it looks promosing. Although the story is in some ways similiar to the Matrix it's still nice. But we'll see what it brings. :)

The Wachowski brothers wrote and produced it. When your ADAPTING, (key word here being ADAPTATION: n 1: a written work (as a novel) that has been recast in a new form; "the play is an adaptation of a short novel" [syn: version]) something, it tends to change, because in the end the holders of the pen on the rewrite, will put there own thoughts and ideas into the film, its called auteurism. And V, even though slightly flawed, is auteurist to the Wachowski's work in the themes, which have run through all there films as far back as Bound. Anyway they adapted it, and rewrote it for a post modern and post 911 society. (FYI if you dont know anything about post modernism, then you should stfu, because you dont have the right to review a film, because you dont know shit) I lost my train of thought... Ah yeah, it was BASED ON THE COMIC BOOK, its not a literal translation. So your comment was basically complitly invalid and retard, thankyou.

As for V, I still haven't seen it and now I won't because all this back-and-forth on the net has fouled my perception. Being a dedicated centrist, I'm not really bothered if it's overly left-leaning because I'll still recognize it as such. I would suggest however that anyone criticizing it as such should fucking get over it. Facism and Totalitarianism prop up the right end of the political spectrum, so any movie dealing with countering those systems is going to HAVE to swing way out to the left just to seem even remotely plausable. Any references to Abu Ghrab and other current problems is only there to intice a response anyway. Next time leave the worm on the hook.

Wow a movie is full of shit, who would have thought a fictional movie would have elements of fiction in it. I saw the movie just yesterday and I actually thought that it was quite good, the action scenes were well corigraphed and the plot was interesting. The movie took the issues we are dealing with now or rather the issues from when the graphic novel was written, like terrorism, pointless war and governments using fear to turn people into caddle and then took it to the extreme in a rendition of what might happen if the world goes along the current path it is on. I thought that it was an amazing action movie that made you think just a little bit harder then say Die Hard.

I don't think they are forcing the viewers to take V's side. From what I saw in a trailer, the movie leaves room for questioning V's motives. One of the central themes is how far you can go to fight against a totalitarian government. The viewer can decide whether V is a freedom fighter, a terrorist or something between the two.
