I love the new direction the portal is heading in.
It's awesome seeing flashes like Ultimate Showdown and Metal Gear Awesome in the top 10... A few years ago they wouldn't even get to the 3.50 mark.

I'm not saying Quality shouldn't count for anything but it's like comparing "The Lion King" to "The Simpsons" or "Family Guy"... Something thats halarious is much more fun to watch then something that has great artwork but is boring as fuck.

I'll say it a bit different - I like that the Portal can recognize each and every Flash for what it tries to do, and judges it based on that rather than what it isn't. Quality animations get judged on their quality, humour flashes, judged on their humour, and so on.

But I find the portal is heading towards a doomed end of pointless noir animations and people are feeling pressure to get better and better at animation.

We need to step back to humor.

But remember also, most people on NG don't have (atleast not a decent) sense of humor in the first place.

It all depends on the viewer's perspective. Lately a lot more young users are joining Newgrounds and find humorous flash more entertaining than artistic flash.

yes it is, its mainly tweenage anyway...the backgrounds are horrible the drawings are horrible even the tweenage is horrible, its strange that when it first showed up everyone liked it, now its turned into a hate flash.

As much as I like admiring the amazing animation skills of a great flash animator, I guess I could go with someone that actually entertains me more. Although that doesn't hold true always, because if something is still interesting to watch, it's a different kind of entertainment than humor. I'd say it's hard to compare movies like brackenwood to the demented cartoon movie, but if it's me, I'd take the one that makes me laugh.

I think that humor should get more recognition but I still believe that a flash like the brackenwood series should be higher up considering all the work that goes into it.

Any stupid shmuck could've done the ultimate showdown, it just so happened that the guy who chose to do is in with the lemon demon.

I'd take anything that'll actually entertain me and make me laugh overy anything that just simply looks good and has nothing to the actualy quality of the story/humor.

Sure, when you watch Brackenwood, you're like "Wow, that's some nice art". That lasts for about 2 minutes before you just lose your interest.

With something with good humor in it, you can be laughing at the flash througout the entire flash. Than, what's even better, is that you still get to think about and talk about the humor in that flash. Hell, Metal Gear Awesome still comes up on occasion when I'm just talking to my friends.

Yeah, I'm entertained more by humorous flashes than artistic ones too. But still, you can't diss those flashes; they may not be entertaining but you have to appreciate just the greatness of some of them.

I don't even think it's so much a matter of humor being preferred over quality so much as it is a lack of entertainment value in the visually awesome movies. Relatively simple animation can usually be effective in movies that are intended to be funny (as long as they aren't total crap to the point of being distracting). But the movies with the really great visuals tend to be pulled down with trite half-baked storylines and pointless dialog that's only really interesting to the people that wrote it. (Not ALL of them are like that, needless to say, but roughly a cubic shit ton of them are.)

Before long, I imagine it'll start to balance out and there'll be hilarious stuff with awesome graphics as well as stuff with awesome graphics that isn't otherwise completely unremarkable. There will be balance in the Force. And everyone will nitpick all the great stuff to death and compare it fanboyishly to all the other awesome stuff. It'll be great.

I wouldn't say humor is better than quality, they both complement each other, when in the right doses.
Sometimes horribly drawn and fast animations are funny. It doesn't need to be great graphics all the time, but it helps.
