Here's a letter about things happening with my employer.
MANPOWER
8 May, 2001
Name Witheld
Div.Secretary F & C Division
Address witheld
Dear (Name Witheld)
Further to your letter of 2 May, I am happy to re iterate our discussions of Monday 30th April. The concerns of our employees are noted & with this in mind we are happy to state to each & every employee both verbally & written.
As you are aware, Manpower Services (Australia) Pty Ltd has been the true employer of all Manpower casual employees in NSW. In recent times we have restructured our workers compensation policies to ensure that all NSW Manpower employees are covered by a particular workers compensation policy. In the case of Manpower employees engaged at Simplot, they are now covered by Manpower Services Simplot Policy.
This will allow Manpower to provide more efficient resources & better manage workplace injuries & rehabilitation at this site. Improved workers compensation results in lower workers compensation premiums, & Manpower is commited to ensuring the Simplot site is one of our best sites in relation to injury reduction.
In ensuring legal compliance, Manpower must employ its employees under the same legal entity as the workers compensation policy. As such, the correct name of the employer is Manpower No 11 PTY LTD

Manpower guarantees that all terms & conditions currently enjoyed by Manpower employees will continue under the new employer. All service is recognised, such that all employees have continuouus service. Our requirement to have our employees sign all necessary paperwork is simply an administrative requirement to nominate the correct business entity within Manpower.
Accordingly, we guarantee the following;
* No employee shall be refused employment with Manpower upon signing the new application form AMP 028(04/2001)
* Manpower will not transfer employees within the Manpower group or related companies without the permission of the employee. The signing of this application form is to transfer the worker from Manpower 1 to Manpower 11 for the purposes of workers compensation only.
* The status of the Manpower employee at Simplot will not change due to the signing of the new application form. This is an administrative document for the purposes of Manpower Services.
* Currently, employees are not to transfer from existing employer(Manpower) to Simplot without the approval of Manpower. Manpower will not prevent any employee who has worked for Manpower at Simplot for a period of 3 months or more to become a Simplot employee.
* All previous agreements with Manpower will be ahered to.
As is stated on the apllication form, all benefits & accruals as a result of continuous service with the companies in the Manpower group or related groups will be recognised by the Manpower Employer to which the employee is transferre.
We are hopeful your organisiation will support Manpower & the requirement to complete this administrative task.
Yours sincerely
Name Witheld

Basically what all that stuff meant is that the company who employs me has set up a seperate company inside itself & we have to sign to the second company for administrative reasons regarding worker's compensation, the Solicitors(Lawers) of Manpower are currently negotiating with the Solicitors of our worker's Union in order to come to an agreement, we are currently not allowed to sign the forms on advice from the union as the Union believe that signing the forms may allow us to be moved around within the company at a later date & some other stuff, there's like 6 forms that nobody understands & aren't entirely ethical apparently but the Union are working to get it down to 2 non-sinister forms.

The letter is very poorly written. Yeah, I wouldn't trust a company within a company.

Hmmm, I signed up with Manpower offices in Philadelphia over a year and a half ago, they have never gotten me a job. And I also noticed the bad grammar in that letter. It's like they were trying to sound professional.
Quote of the day: @Nysssa "What is the word I want to use here?" @freakapotimus "Taint".

Michael Moore had a go at Manpower on the Awful Truth, but that was about not giving casuals permanant jobs, By law in Australia anyone who's be casual more than 6 months become permenant, I'd have to say that I wouldn't have a job without Manpower but these you forms & arrangements seem awfully strange.

I don't know about other countries, but in Australia, much of the beaurocracy and legal bullshit has come about as a means for companies to combat unions and regressive workplace legislation. It's really all just a big dance by a whole bunch of shifty bastards on both sides of the fence.
