at how all you animal lovers haven't been bitching at the yearly Canadian seal hunting, usually everyones gets all angry and pissed that a couple thousand seals are killed for their fur and meat. though i probably could've gone without out this debate i felt provocation was necessary. i'm for the hunt of those delicous clubable seals, you?

popbrain1, did you know there was a quota of how many could be hunted? i didn't think so. 325000(i think its that) out of an overpopulated ~6000000 seals will not affect the seals chance of survival as a species.
next ignorant comment please!

YES!!! Thats the point! Seriously, what have seals ever done for us anyway? It's time they pay for their lack of contrabution to society! By the way, do you think there's some way we can use their fat for oil? Because then we could solve two problems at once :)
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I just thought you all should know :)

We should breed seals in small(2x2feet) cages and then molest them day and night.

They shouldent club them. Instead, they should gas them with something that would kill them quickly and painlessly.
Clubing is so barbaric.

I think we can hunt the seals, but in a slow rate so that they won't extinguish.

This aint 1850. They are watching how much they hunt carfully, and will slow or stop the hunt if something happens.

well in some places in the gulf most people hunt with rifles while in others they still use hakapicks (they're like super fun hammers!) and then again a big hammer to almost any part of a seal isn't that slow away to go
it ain't living through that...

Well, killing any of them is going to aide in their extinction.

Seal hunting is the reason why Tomp Fulp made "Clubby the Seal". If you haven't seen in his biography, he watched a nature program where all these ugly seals were swimming away from one cute little seal as it was getting cluubed to death. His mom wanted to change the channel, but his dad changed back and, well, his mom got ticked at dad.
Aside, if we let seals live now and hunt them later, we can likely have a bigger supply of fat and fur if we monitor their movements.

I don't particularly oppose the hunting of seals by native populations, but otherwise, it's pretty nonsensical.

...so if i kill 5% of a certain animal from an overpopulated area i am causing their extinction despite the fact its going to have very little effect on that population? your logic is interesting.

Caution: Graphic Image of Dead Seal
well it provides a number of people some extra income and helps control the seal population as well as gives something for peta to bitch about.

If they're overpopulated, as shi says that they are, then it's a good thing that there's an annual hunt. It's better for the ecosystem. Since the natural predators have been culled back or are simply afraid of human encroachment, the seal population increases its carrying capacity above the natural limit, exhausting a great deal of resources. It's times like this when humans need to pick up the slack. We scared off or killed the predators, so we need to fulfill the function that those predators did.
Think you're pretty clever...

There's a yearly hunting thing for pretty much every animal that isn't endangered, they do this in America too. You just don't have seals.

The whole seal clubbing thing is so ridiculous. It's not necessary to violently slaughter seals and skin them alive for fur. Fur is probably the least needed thing ever.
