My mom told me this story about when she was in 7th grade. I found it quite amusing.
My mom lived in North Dakota when she was growing up. At her middle school two of her friends were dating for awhile. Eventually the guy dumped her in this ingenious fashion. He told her he wrote a poem for her. She opened up the slip of paper and it said...
Roses are red,
violets are blue,
The trash gets dumped,
and so do you
The girl of course cried over it and as most people do, over react to a middle school relationship.
Well, around 20 years later they both met each other again in L.A. They talked for awhile and eventually started dating. After awhile they actually got married. It turns out she had kept the poem. She got her brother to read the poem at the wedding. The groom had no idea this was going to happen. I imagine he felt a bit uncomfortable. I would have loved to be there to see his expression. They did eventually get married though.
Heart warming isn't it?
