Us Arabs don't see the U.A.E. as an Arab country anymore, since they've "lost their roots".

Those are some amazing structures and projects. It's a good thing they're taking their oil money and putting it into things like this to help fund the nation when oil runs out. The nation of Nauru tried to do invest in projects, albeit, not on this magnitude, but they were shoddily handled. Now that the country's supply of phosphates, it's only export, is exausted, the country may have give up it's sovereignship and seek inclusion in Australia.
So often times it happens, that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we had the key...

From what I've seen on the news and internet, Dubai seems like a beautiful place. Those projects with the man- made islands look awesome. I need to visit this place one day.

As much of a success story Dubai is, it can't help but look a little tacky to me.

EL-OH-EL haha.
Dubai is going to be (and is somewhat) a place of the future, they have the ski dome built and they have that kickass hotel. And tourism money is coming there, so they're just richer. Now why should a place like that not run our ports?

I've been to the city 2 years ago. Back then it looked like a normal Arabic town. However, the airport and the 7-star hotel is magnificent. Don't forget that you can also go sand duning on jeeps!
