Flash MX and Flash 8 alot? I currently have Flash MX and I bought a book to learn Actionscript called Actionscript for Flash MX. If I upgrade to Flash 8, will this book still be helpfull?

Flash 8 added quite a bit like filters that can be manipulated with A.S. but most of the stuff you used in MX should work fine.
I made the jump from MX to 8 and didn't notice that much of a difference, even though I was still using AS1.

Flash MX uses AS 1. FlashMX 04 and later (Flash 8 included) have support for AS1 but also use AS2, which includes things such as strict datatyping and a much more rich class system.

=D That's a relief...I didn't want to waste 55 bucks worth of knowledge for upgrading!

AS1 and AS2 are pretty much the same anyway, AS2 is just a little stricter and has some more features.
