Hello, this is my very first guide, so please don't mind any spelling errors you find in this thread, hopefully this will be helpful, and will make you & your account safe!
Okay, let's start!
The internet can be a cruel cruel place, where many people can try to get your account, which is known as hacking.
This, is truly easy to avoid...
Be sure to change your password almost every month!
Because you never know, someone might just crack into it..
don't make it something easy to know, like your alias, or newgrounds...
Be sure to add numbers, so it can be something like 59047fjd

NOTE - That's not my password, so don't even try :P

Moving on..
Remember, Never accept .exe or other files of some sort like that from a stranger,
or anyone! There's always a chance a Virus might be in there!

Most .exe's contain viruses, so watch out.

But a virus can't get your account, That's what only keyloggers do.
Keyloggers are a sort of file that records all of your keystrokes, and is capable of
getting your password, personal information, and basicly everything you click/type.
Keyloggers are very simple to remove!

NOTE - Keyloggers cannot, I mean CANNOT get removed by Norton AntiCrap.

HOW TO REMOVE KEYLOGGERS
----------

1Go to http://mcafee.com/ and download the free on-line virus scan. You will need to create an account or you can't log on using Microsoft Net passport. The download and scan will take some time so be patient it is worth it.

When the scan has finished you will be presented with a list of infected files, print off this page off if possible or make a note of them as you will need to know the names later. Manually deleting of these files will not resolve the keylogger problem as there also will be several entries in the registry that require deletion. Also Windows ME and XP will have a restore section which may automatically replace the deleted files.

2Go to www.download.com and search for "Anti-spy" within downloads, then download the trial version of Anti-spy.info 1.

When you run "Anti-spy" it will list everything that is running on your pc and also rate its danger potential. you can then right-click the files that match the list provided by Mcafee and quarantine them. Any registry entries will also be deleted.

Now, to be sure you won't get any more keyloggers, or nasty viruses, get a better Firewall
You can easly get a great firewall installed, I reccomend you go
here.

3Go to http://webroot.com and download the trial version of Spysweeper and do a complete hard drive scan. This will detect the keylogger, which is now inactive and quarantined, and delete it along with all the corresponding registry entries.
--------
Well, that's that for keyloggers, now here's a really good tip!
If you ever leave newgrounds.com, and have flash & everything, NEVER leave your email address (( Especially if it's a hotmail.com )) There have been people who
re-create emails, and put in your old one, and retreave your password!
So if you ever leave newgrounds, please be sure to not display your address.
--------
Well, i'm about to finish off my guide!
I hope i've been helpful, and you might use this sometime or another.
Adios, hope you enjoyed it!
Oh, also... If you think you might need to know more anti viruses, there are a few
online ones, so here are a few before I go!
Housecall
Panda Activescan
Adios!

You haven't been on newgrounds as long as I have.
I'm just trying to give people a few hints, and how am I bothering?
I'm trying to be helpful for others, but you sir are very self indulgent.
How do you know people might not need this information?

I highly doubt that.
I've heard a rumour that Norton Antivirus doesn't neccessarly delete all Viruses..
When you're in trial mode, they delete half the viruses.

I know this for a fact, because i've had it.

And even when I did buy it, it still did the same.
So the truth is, you still probobly have one.

Or buy a Mac, and don't worry about keyloggers. Don't act smart, you're not.

Actually, I admire his curtisy of trying to make a helpful yet somewhat guide to keeping your NG account safe. It is his first guide aswell. I also really admire his use of linking Urban Dictionary for the helpful words.

I would also recommend downloading AVG Free Home Edition. Just click on "Get AVG Free" on the left-hand side of the menu.

Good try at making your frist helpful guide. Keep up the good work!

Why anyone would want a NG account?

Personal grudge is most likely. It's a NG account, it's value is worthless. Make a new account, repost all your flash and get an admin to delete all your flash from your old account as well as the account itself, if you're really lucky they'll transfer the stats.

It's such a rare occurence, it's not even worth preventing against. Plus, most of the account "hacks" are actually provided by A) clicking "remember me next time" on their computer, or
B) trusting them with your password.

AIM and email are parts of our profiles, silly. :P

If .exe files were so innoccuous, then email providers like Gmail wouldn't feel the need to bounce back any and all attachments ending in .exe.

I like the guide, it's helpful. The best advice is about passwords. I would make an educated guess that most 'hacked' accounts at NG are usurped because of stupid, stupid passwords.

nice idea of making a guide.
Avg anti-virius is good and for a fire wall I would suggest Zone Alarm, it block out more than you want it to but you can change all of that like most other ones.
Still good idea...

PS: I agree norton sucks!
