I'm so sick of being in the middle of a class and someone's phone rings, interrupts the entire class, and makes an ass of themselves. For that matter...resteraunts, grocery stores...frankly the blasted things are goddamn annoying. I don't know, it just seems pretty damn rude to me to be talking on the cell phone while you're shopping, especially if people are behind you in line, and you won't hurry the hell up and pay for your stuff because you're busy talking to your best friend about how your boyfriend is an ass...or some other stupid conversation that could wait five damn minutes until you get home.

people have to be pretty shallow to have their cell phone on in a school. just think about it. they need to be reached by their freinds in a building where 90% of their freinds are. thats just insane. i dont support the idea behind cell phones anyways if i need to call someone ill use a payphone and if i know someones going to call me ill wait at home.

alot of time people just bring their cell phone to school just to use it afterwards to get a ride or make plans for that day. they should be turned off during school hour, though.

Fuck you, a cell phone isn't that annoying. My right to have a phone does not outweigh your right not to hear a fucking phone ring. I'm not hurting anyone.
Anyway, I'm out of high school, so my opinion might not mean much, but I'm very much against school authority. I think it's gotten to the point where the school does what it wants to break children's spirits and turn them into robots, but they only get away with it if you let them. Resist!
Remember that like any other organization, a school should, at least in part, be run by the people in it, i.e. the students. Run for student council. Fight this kind of crap. Students will vote for anyone who promises to "fight the man," they're stupid like that, but they're right anyway. If you don't have a student council, ask why not. Tell your parents. Start a petition. Remember, you only lose the fight if you give up. As long as you don't, you haven't lost.

Cell phones should be allowed in school, but not in class. They should stay in lockers or off in school bags. The phone rings during class, the phone goes out to the locker.

See, now that's reasonable. Everyone can deal with that. "No cell phones on school grounds, period" is not reasonable.

Just as students are not permitted to play tubas during class, they should not be permitted to have a cell phone ring. Both are disruptive.

Yes, that's the way it is here at my univ. You can take cell phones wherever you want, but in class most profs ask you too turn it off and put the ringer on vibrate.
Seriously though once in one of my dad's classes, he's going back to college, some chick's cell phone rang, she answered, and right there in the middle of the fucking class, she carried on a conversation with her friend. When she was done the professor told her to get the hell out of his class. :D

Cells in school is JUST FINE, if it rings in class or in an exam room it is NOT, it disturbs people(students) who wish to learn, i agree that schools tend to have alot of stupid policys and dumb outlooks (i.e. UNIFORMS) but their concepts on cell phones are (partially) reasonable. If i was the principle or whoever makes the damn rules this is how it'd be:
Bring your cell phone, by all means, keep it hanging out of your pocket for all we care, but make sure that during classes, assemblys or anything that needs not be disturbed, it is off, and won't slip and be turned on, if it is you get suspended for a day
harsh, but it's your risk, keeping it in your locker is NOT A GOOD IDEA, if someone knows ur combo ur fucked... yep, i'm a 14 year old g9(sec3) student, i have no cell phone, but my friends do, DOWN WITH THE EDUCATION SYSTEM, because it is run stupidly, it should be rethought and refined so that we all have equal chancee, but that'll never happen, too bad, but also too true!

Yeah, I think most of the people for the cell phones are in high school. Of course at that level its all about impressing other people...to some degree... I don't know about these 14 year olds, but once you guys are 16, if you don't like the rules at your high school, you DO have the right to drop out. I hated high school too, goddamn did I think their rules were stupid, but I put up with it. It's not as long as you think... Now frankly I think you should be given the option to leave earlier, so that when you bitch and moan and stuff, they can just tell you "OK, then leave". Well...that's kinda how it is at the college level, so you don't have to hear people bitch that they have to turn their cell phone down and not hear that lovely computerized rendition of Bethoven's sixth symphony every time their boyfriend wants to check in on them.

Cell phones should not be on in class, I don't really care if you have them or not but please either turn them off, or put them of vibrate. It is so annoying to concentrate while you're blabbing away on your cell phone during class.

Who would call you in class anyway? Why bring it to class when the only call you'll get is from someone who dialed wrong. Why not just turn it on to vibrate if it makes you feel important to have everyone know that your parents bought you some stupid cell phone. This problem goes much further than you think...at sporting events i've mainly noticed stupid women(not to be sexist)or ignorant men stand up and say on there cell phone "can you see me I'm waving" to so other ass doing the same thing. Thank god for drunks at sporting events to get them to sit the **** down......I feel better now.........

CELL PHONES + SCHOOL = BAD IDEA
what happend to this world. kids are so busy they need to talk on the phone DURING CLASS. I'm sorry, i dont know how important you think you are, school is for school, phone time is later. some people are trying to learn ( not really, but cell phones piss me off anyway ) just leave the phone at home while youre at school.

Anyone pissed off by cell phones needs to get fucking used to them. Technology is here to stay.
Suspended for a day? That's a little harsh, and therefore stupid. I'd say, you bring it where you want. It rings once, you get asked to turn it off. It rings again, you put it in the backpack or the locker or wherever. If it gets stolen, that's your problem, and I've got no sympathy for you if you're so much of a cock you won't turn off your cellphone AFTER BEING ASKED TO.

They were asked to. As soon as they entered the classroom, they are asked and expected to turn off their cell phones.
Is it really that difficult to live without talking to someone for an hour or so?
It is the person's problem if it rings, the reason they are told to turn it off is so that it doesn't ring. If it does, one day's suspension is perfectly acceptable. They need to accept the consequences for their own actions.
And the bit about "technology here to stay"?
Of course it is. But why let it run rampid. We can control it, obviously, so we can use it whereever we please. We have accepted it is here, now we make rules to govern it.

Yes, technology is here to stay. I'm not advotcating cell phone bans, but come on! Cell phones should not be *ringing* in the following places: religious services, classes (any level), business meetings, job interviews, during a movie/show/performance. If you will be desperately needed (your wife/mother/sister/girlfriend is about to give birth, for example) then most phones have a vibrate feature. Most of the time, people will know where you are as well. My dad had to pull me out of high school one day, he called the front office and had me paged to meet him in the office. There are always ways to reach someone, and in most cases, it can wait 30 minutes or so.

y cell phones should not be in schools:
1. rings in class
2. plays game in class
3. sets social status
4. drugs get in school easier
5. there would be no use for the cell phone if all ure friends are in school anyway.
6. valuabe; prone to be stolen
7. causes school fights (ie, two ppl fight over cell phone)
8. snake is the most fucking addictive game ever...
by the way, dont think that all kids in school want cell phones, cuz i am in school, and i dont think they should.

I had a teacher who made everyone sign a contract at the beginning of the year, one of the conditions was that he allowed cell phones in the room, but they needed to be off, or on vibrate, if they went off, he(the teacher) was allowed to answer the phone.
The first time someone had a phone incident was also the last time.

My mother was watching stand-up one time, I think it was Rosie O'Donnell on HBO. A guy near the front of the audience had a cell phone on, and it rang during the show. She made him bring the phone up to her, she answered it, talked to the person, and told off the guy. Did anyone see this? (I heard this from my mother, so I'm not sure exactly what happened.)

...what about band class? ;)
Just kidding.
Seriously, though. I agree. Cellphones should be allowed in schools, but most certainly not in class. They should stay in lockers until breaks, or lunchtime, or whatever.
This cracks me up, however. When I was still in high school? NO ONE had cellphones in school. And it certainly wasn't as fashionable to have one wherever you went.
Lord, times have changed.

You're not exactly a genius, are ya?
It IS the student's fault if the phone disrupts the class, there are many ringing options to prevent that sort of thing.
As for the teachers just being jealous, well that is just kinda silly. Think about it, someone making good money can afford a cell phone if a 15 yr old kid can afford it, even if it is just allowance money or their parents letting them use it.
I have a friend who is a college student and a mother. The policy at her school is if the phone rings in class you step out into the hall to answer it and converse. She has to keep the phone on since she is a single mother and it is the only way for her childrens school to contact her.
I think the teacher answering the phone is a great policy for high school and under, and even for certain circumstances in college classes.
Anyhoo.... </rant>

I truly hope you're joking.
If you're not? And you're serious? How...sad. Sad that someone can be so...deluded.
That's all.

i'd have to agree that they should be allowed at school, but not in class.
where i live, we aren't allowed to have cells or pagers on school grounds at all (but this also comes from the same dean of students that ruled it that male students weren't allowed to have facial hair, that is, until my debate club got a petition signed by 95% of the student body to have the rule cancelled)
JESUS JUMPED UP CHRIST I HATE SOCIETY!!!!!!
