Seriously, what is it with the 13-15 year olds thinking religions that don't worship god automaticaly worship satan?

The other day my friends were walking to the school library.
He was wondering if we thought god was real, most of them agreed that he was but not me.
I told them I was an atheist. There was a pause, followe by "You worship Satan?"
I told him what it meant and he understood now but he thought I was lying.

2 periods have passed, it's lunch now and he comes racing up to me saying "Dude, you worship the devil don't you!"
Most people around us having heard that decide to ask me too "Omg, do you worship satan?"
He said that he asked his friends what it meant. Guess what?
They totally mis-informed him and just told them what they thought it meant, you know like what they've heard from other people.

I asked him what they told him and they all had different answers, one said "Roman God?" another said "Something that has to do with planting?" but the rest said "Someone who worhips Satan". I was fucking shocked.

I told him what it meant, again and so he asked a teacher and said the same thing as I did.
And again, alot of people having heard our loud conversation had stirred up some rumours about me. I had about 12 people come up to me asking if I worshiped satan.

I had it around the 6th person coming to ask me so just out of spite I said YES I did worship Satan.

I don't hate Christians, or any other form of religion that worships god.
I'm just saying that most young Christian/Catholics of them are mis-informed about other religions.

i think its b/c their young and they believe what their parents tell them

Bah. Truth be told Im a youth pastor. This stuff kinda tickers me, because its so damned common. You cant expect someone who cant even drive to know how religion works, even basically, in most cases, unless theyve been going and intently listening since a younger age, which is rare anyways.
Either that or theyre fundamentalists, meaning they suck anyways.

Satanism is an interesting thing though. It's funny that people really don't know anything about it. For instance, in Philosophical Satanism a person does not worship Satan, but rather sees himself as his own god. And even Religious Satanism has some merit. People have been conned into believing Satan is some big, nasty evil dude, but I still say that just from reading the Bible God acts a hell of a lot more evil than Lucifer.

Of course, Satanists are really just a bunch of attention whores. It's a shame though, because if looks at correctly it actually could end up being better than Christianity. Because come on now, just how peaceful have God worshipping people been throughout the years?

It's got some pretty good rules too. Like "do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked" and "do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them." Along with nice ones like "do not harm little children." See? It's not so evil after all. Just shuts up the emos.

I actually looked up the "Satan" stuff, and it turns out that it's really not much like how people talk about it. The guy that created the "Church of Satan" seems to really see it as a philosophy rather than religion. And, although I'm not sure if this really has any effect towards anything, he was Jewish.

Yes, I've read these rules when I was reading the Church of Satan site...

I think all those rules and FAQS they put on made satanists seem not so bad.

The problem with defending stereotypes is that the other person is always like "Nuh huh, I'm ___ and I don't do that." It's not that EVERY person of that race does it, it's just they're most likely to.
