As a black male i feel it is harder to be accepted as a functional member of society. Simple things for most become painfully weird for instance say me a 18 year old black walk into a "Starbucks" I'm looked at all sort of ways its as if time stops. So basically what I'm saying is please White America give us a break we just wanna be accepted.

I'm not trying to be racist here (I'm not) or clear anything up, and this is a very hard subject to tiptoe around.
Some people would rather just walk all over it, but I'll try and word this carefully.
There are certain.... groups... of black people that are louder and more known than most.
The rappers, the "gangstas" and such. All the ones that are so massively popular for some reason. The ones all the little shite kids want to be like.
Now when some people see a black person who even remotely resembles someone who remotely resembles some rapper, they make assosciations.
All the black people who sing about pot and weed and stealing and shooting and such, seem to give the public a bad name about a certain age bracket of American black males.

Ok with that said then why don't blacks jump to the same conclusions and everytime we see a white person jump up and scream about slavery.I'm not a "thug" I'm just a black guy thats does'nt "act black" so i much rather listen to LinkinPark than Nas or Jay-Z but what im saying is that were apart of your society like it or not and that African Americans are a minority in America. Outside of the U.S it is the White males and females that our the minority. Its not fair to make assumputions about someone character based soully on there outward appearance and until people realize this there will always be tension.

I'm not saying it's right, or that I do, but from my experience, I've met a number of people who have.
I'll make an assumption if a black man walks up to me with a bandana around his head, his pants sagging down below his ass, his hat on wrong, wearing gold and silver chains.
otherwise, I'll wait and meet them

Lets come together right now, over me.

No, no, and no.
I'm not saying to make assumptions. I'm not saying there's anything WRONG with being a rapper. But there's a limit to how many rings you can fit on one finger, and a limit to how much "bling bling" you can fit around your neck.
I'm saying that it is only safe to make assumptions when there is reasonable doubt. You don't act on those assumptions until they are confirmed. There is nothing at all wrong with making assumptions in your own mind.
When you speak to the person in depth, then you can claim to actually know.

I think that it sucks, but it has to be understood that there actually are a good number of black scumbags, as are there white scumbags. It's just that in my experience, the blacks don't have as many ways of differentiating themselves from eachother through clothing and stuff (or maybe I just don't understand the subtle differences). There are quite a few blacks that I see that are really great people, I work with them and they are cool, well mannered people. But after work, they dress just like the 'bad' blacks. Whites on the other hand, have a complex system that allows one to differentiate low and middle class through clothing.
I hope I don't sound racist. I'm totally open to refutation of my comments, I'm not perfect.

It's because, despite the efforts of amny people. Racial profiling still exists, and it's going to take a lot of effort (and time) to make it go away.

Y'know, some people say white people will become a minority by 2050. I believe it because in St. Louis most parts of the city are run by blacks. Who thinks this is possible?

There's a stigma against chains, rings, ("bling bling"). If you walk through a predominantly white area wearing all that sort of stuff, that's the clothing style that "bad" blacks wear. The so called "gangstas" that sing about shooting people, so people have a right to be nervous.
However, if you're well dressed and courteous, people won't be. Just don't dress like people who people are nervous of, and they won't be nervous of you.
It's just like a white person walking through a predominantly black area dressed in a KKK outfit and being angry that people are nervous.

I'm all for acceptance of other races, but then again, that's pretty much how I was raised. I think a lot of it has to do with a lack of cultural acceptance though. I mean, I'm white, but it used to be if I walked into a Starbucks I'd get looks too. But then, purple hair will do that. It's that example, as well as several others, that leads me to believe it's a lack of respect for culure, not race. As Ted earlier indicated, a lot of people in mainstream society have a lack of respect for the ghetto/rapper/ect subculture of America. But in my eyes, I say just keep yourself, go into the place you're not wanted, and then leave without doing anything wrong. That's even worse in their eyes than going into the store, holding a gun to their head and robbing them. I remember when I went into a nice resteraunt all gothed out when I was like sixteen. They made me go home and put a tie on, but it looked rather nice below my collar. The simple fact that I was respectful and nice to them pissed 'em off more than anything cause they couldn't toss me out and had to treat me like a customer. It was great.
By the way, another reason to move towards racial equality: Ethnic chicks=hot. But that was pretty much a given.

I live in a town of about 100,000, Barrie, Ontario, Canada. We have maybe 2,000 Black people here. I work in a gas station part time to help pay for school, and i would personally say i treat the blacks better then the whites.
I look at the white people (myself being one), and all i can see is nothing. Totally lifeless machines. Black people see to have more character and i am more fascinated with them, probably because i only know like 3 or 4.

Hey, DarkBlueFlame753, I feel bad for you - Discrimination is an awful thing.
If you think about it, your country (I'm presuming you're American) has a long, savage history of racism, especially towards the black population, and today's media isn't helping the matter at all. Have you ever watched CNN, FOX "news," or an episode of COPS? All shows seems to have a lust for portraying the black and hispanic population as criminal, as they (the media) tends to draw it's criminal stories from lower income, ghetto areas where crime is obviously higher and easier to find, and sadly, predominantly coloured.
As well, like one user above me mentioned, Rap and whatnot sure doesn't help your people's image - MEDIA again.
This is just a personal view, but I see America as having a broader population of... less informed people (that's in no way stating American's are idiots, but it's just been proven time, and time again that America, for some strange reason, has some of the most gullible citizens), so when you combing those lacking people with the media propaganda (because fear gets attention and sells sadly) and stereotypes, you get fear and misunderstandings, both of which are the main triggers of hate, or on a lesser level, discrimination.
To sum it up, blame your media.

Actually, I've had people look at me funny when I walked into a Gap wearing an old pair of blue jeans and a faded Army shirt. And I'm white.
Basically, the moral of my story is that there are pricks everywhere. And pricks will always be pricks. Nothing you can do about it.

each person has to make a choice on how to respond to the idea of equal rites. the federal government has stated that tolerance is the solution.unfortunatly tolerance does not = understanding. people see the things on tv and imagine all blacks to be similar to the negitive images they witness. this is not acceptable. but its not only tv its also groups such as the kkk and the naacp. many people wouldn't think of these two groups together but in many ways they are similar. they both press the issue of race. until the people of america, white and black, call for the destruction of such narrow minded groups people will never truely blend. how can a person look at another and not notice their race with groups pressing the issue so far.

This post is interesting, and neverending unfortunately, this all won't change. Rap influences people into thinkin' all black people are smokers, carry guns... that is, provided they fit the steriotype, young black man (15 - 24 around...) wearing a bandana, baggy pants falling off (sagging) with chains(bling) hanging around their necks... this won't end, and you can't stop it, go about your business, and show them, no, you're NOT going to walk into a store and rob it and shoot 10 people, you're gonna go in, buy a bag of chips, a carton of milk, pay, say thank you, and leave.
Stuck up, ignorant pigs have the same opinion about goths, they're suicidal satan worshipping psychos, therefore they should be watched out for.
Why is this so? STEREOTYPE, media, whatever it is, they get the opinion and steal the thoughts out of the media that are implanted into their brains, like they're being programmed.
Teach your children to meet people before they judge them, you are doing your part. And remember, always keep an open mind, don't judge, and BE FREE!!!!

Actually, thanks to rappers like Eminem most middle aged white men view both black and white teenagers and young 20 somethings the same: they hate both of them. Yes sir, to tell the truth there can be one thing worst than someone who perpetuates sterotypes: People who perpetuate stereotypes they aren't even a part of.

Geez... that sux... yeah, it is unfair - and people like you should be treated more fairly - there should be a large reduction in racism. I'm Asian, and I see all those people saying shit to me cuz I'm Asian - some stuff like that is probably just jokes, but people who hate me use the fact that I'm Asian against me too. Racism against African-North Americans has been reduced - but it's still not enough - and racism against Asian-North Americans, in my opinion, is kinda worse needs to take that step. I mean havn't you seen an Asian guy walk down some street and other people immitating Asian accents or calling him a chink even if they don't even know if he's really Chinese?
BTW, I'm not even American. I'm Canadian.

Yeah, and to add to the statements about African-North Americans - I have a lot of African-North American friends who never act like punks. I'm not saying that acting the other way is stupid, but there's punks in every race, and people gotta look at that. You can't just turn a whole race down just because you saw MORE OF THEM acting in a way you didn't like than some other races - there's always people who won't act in that way.

It's not just you. I'm a white 24-yr-old who works in an office building (so you can gather how I dress) and I hate holding the door for people anymore, because you do it for one person, and 20 people will sneak in after and not one of them will say "Thanks."
One thing I've heard from my parents (and their friends) is "You're free, white, and 21; you can do whatever you want." And I know it's said to make me feel better, more motivated, etc etc etc. It doesn't. I'm like "What's being white have to do with it?" and they don't understand.
People get nervious around my apartment at times, because the "projects" are across the street, but no one will listen to me when I complain about the punks that hang on my corner and trash it, because the punks are white.
I hate people sometimes.

Thanks man... I kinda wish for neighbors that are not racist myself - there's some here. I'm not sure, but I think Canada has more racism than the United States, since the U.S. just tells its citizens to fit in as one group without encouraging them to maintain their culture, while Canada just tells everyone to get with the people of their race to preserve traditions, so since people stay with other people in their race, conflicts between racial groups is pretty bad, however, most facilities are totally mixed, like schools, so it's not really hard to make a friend with someone that's not in your race. So we're kinda just like the U.S. - some people say we're copying them, with a few minor differences like the one I just mentioned.
BTW, the one-child thing goes only to Chinese people who have Chinese citizenships. I don't think having more than one child is something the government would disapprove in countries like Korea and Japan. Chinese people who have American or Canadian citizenships can have another child if they want to.

Have you even been to Canada? Other than occasional aboriginal insurgency (and let's face it, our native citizens have a fucking right to be pissed off), racial violence is almost at ZERO. And Canada does not encourage racial segregation, it's called a "multicultural mosaic." It means that Canada is a land of immigrants, and the european ways shouldn't be more dominant than, for example, the asian ways. Don't forget where you come from, you're encouraged to maintain your culture, etc.
I don't like the idea of the melting pot because of the statement it makes that society comes before individual.
