i think it is an excellent idea.

I would LOVE to ask Dave Firth some questions, and i wouldnt be surprised if he would do it, he thinks pretty highly of Newgrounds. There even used to be an "Ask Dave" section on his site, so he would be used to this sort of thing.

It's great to see that so many flash authors are up for the idea. Many chat Ops (me included) are willing to go ahead with this. Chat could easily accommodate large numbers. Having personally opped a chat with at least 100 users at a time (Mac5's FlashIRC), I know how hectic it can get to have a room full of people all asking questions at the same time, but it can be kept civil.
I know you're rarely in there anymore, but I'm sure you remember how many users join every day hoping to talk to an accomplished Flash author, and are disappointed to end up talking to someone who knows Flash well enough to answer questions, but has no work to show for it. Most of the chatters are artists with other areas of expertise, or are simply NG Fans.
I love the idea, and I hope that it can be made a reality in the near future.

Modes/Levels could be set to control the flow of questions. The idea of a middleman to keep stupid questions or negativity to a minimum could be used (so that Ops Act—instead of React—to spammers).
Also, PG's idea was (as I understand) partially meant to bring back a bit more livelihood to the chat, not just solely to let users chat with their favorite artists.

not enough log in - hardly any talking and it all goes a bit slow and unevenful.

I doubt that'll be a problem. In that case, the discussion would be made more open. The room would not be muted, and users would have a chance to talk more openly with the author.

That's even more of a problem. Not everyone uses/has MSN, meaning that it would be necessary to download the program if you didn't already have it. To connect to the NG Chat, users have two options:
- 1: Download any of the various IRC clients (some notable ones are mIRC, xIRC [win], Snak, Colloquy [mac])
- 2: Join NG Chat using the Java applet.

It's nice to see support for this from Up-and-Coming artists as well as well-known ones.

i personally think that they should set up (temporarily) a forum for each questionable person so that it's not all weird. eg. you have a question for glaiel you go to the glaiel forum, you have a question for inglor you go to the inglor forum.

I'm not sure what you meant by this. I think the idea Psycho_Goldfish was trying to put out there was for different authors to come in on different dates/times regularly (not just one giant multiauthor parade, though that'd be interesting).

I suppose I could be interested. I dont really have the time to be answering emails and IMs from people, so I guess this would make it easier.

I would love talking to James Phar and chluaid, but they seem to be busy all the time.

This is all great grand and wonderful, and I'm wondering if flash nobodies (e.g. myself) could somehow watch these convo's. Like, if it's not a chatroom, maybe have a specific part of newgrounds where they post these convos' ...maybe collections by author name, level of flash it is (1 being easy noob flash and 5 being super mega-advanced or somehting), and what it is (actionscripting, fbf, rotoscoping, etc. etc.), so you go there and theres loads of saved conversation's so passer-by's like myself could look through them all, and find any useful information. I mean I have the program and all and I'm certainly interested in at least making ONE movie...(one at least decent movie)...And uhhmm yeah, all the animators I know are 2-D animators, and in fact I am, sooo i'm pretty much stuck with this big complicated program and a few tutorials on this site...of course what am I saying, if flash animators are going to be asking flash animators for advice, it would obviously be REALLY advanced stuff...alright well, I just wanted to put my two cents in. so there you go...a bucket full of two pennies...just uhm..ignore me, cuz I kinda skimmed through this post so I bet I dont even make any sense or have any coherent or contributing thoughts...

id love for this to work out because i would definitely want to talk to Jerry(Granfaloon). although we already talk on msn messenger and email ,id definitely want to talk voice to voice because hes always busy most of the times and takes like a day to reply to emails.

I saw someone actually mentioned me before(Forte_Exe)! ^_^ I'd be glad to jump in on this...if I'm worthy to be put next to Dan Paladin, Luis, David Firth, Adam Phillips, or whoever ends up doing this.

Oh, and I'd like to nominate Max Alberty. Brilliant programmer. (I'm not a madness fan, by the way, for all of those nay-sayers out there, I like all of Max's work. >_<)

There have been some problems lately with the server the chat is on over the past couple of days. People in certain areas have been having trouble getting in, hopefully it'll be rectified soon.

tools > options > connect + servers: add.
description: newgrounds
irc server: irc.webchat.org (or irc.webmaster.com) <== they both take to the same server.
port: 6667

i recomend adding both servers, under 2 different names. then come into #newgrounds.com

that was just to save you the hastle of using the java applet, since i know you use mirc ;)
