What do you guys think? Has the empire fallen? Or is it due for a comeback?

Throughout Russian history, they've always seemed to fall behind, and all hope was lost, but then someone like Ivan the Terrible, Peter the First, Cathrine the Great, etc would come to the throne and turn the whole country around.

The USSR will be revived, and then Germany and the rest of the EU will invade, but with the support of the US this time, and they'll win. After that I don't know.

I'm having a hard time believing that Russia is your Motherland. You sound more like some whiny teen who doesn't appreciate the freedoms you have in the United States.

Yes, they've made comebacks in different forms, as for the soviet-era, it's over.

The warsaw pact is gone the U.S.S.R is history and other than for a few senile old men and whiney little kids true markism is dead. All that remains is Russia and make no mistake Russia is a great couuntry and other for a little teething problems all would seem to be going well within her borders. Russia will soon grow into a very powerful country but other than its bitterness with old warsaw pact countrys (I'm looking at you Ukraine) it has no real enemys. There will never be a knew U.S.S.R. but perhaps a new sun will rise in the East?

I think Russia is due a revival. It has just been blamed for gas pipeline sabotage and threatened the Ukrainian gas supply. They also threw heat on some British spies to stop the international pressure from these two acts.

Sorry to sound paranoid, but they're up to something.

Sure they are. Putin is undermining the freedom of the russian people and the war in Chechnya (sp?) is continuing. I'll personally be happy when the Putin reignis over.

I have a feeling China and Russia will start to butt heads, just cause.......

Winner of that will get the throne for the (other) Superpower, assuming the US still retains this title.......

I suspect Russia's comeback will be a ways away, or might not happen at all......

Rome never had a comeback, and based on Russia's previous empire (quite large and powerful), I doubt they will get a comeback either.

Ya know what they say, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.......
Holds true to empires to an extent..

Once Russia loses its oil supply (it will be soon because they are using it and selling it really damn fast) there entire economy I think will basically be gone. Wait, they will still be able to pawn off old Cold War crap. Like selling subs to cocaine dealers :P

There is strong evidence that the Russian Mafia has fostered ties with the Colombian drug cartels. In one brazen attempt at promoting criminal cooperation that defies all logic, one Russian gang tried to sell a Soviet-era submarine to the Colombians in order to help them smuggle dope into the U.S.

Peter the first was the first emperor of russia, and he was the first peter to become the ruler of Russia. He made Russia's first naval fleet. I think you need to read up on your own history buddy.

Oh and by the way I am Russian. I was born in Sverdlovsk, in the Urals. I speak Russian too.

What are you people talking about.

Russia has always been a backwater nation that is barely considered European.

Only a few times has Russia shown any actualy glory and gander.

The reign of Peter, Catherine and Alexander.

And the Soviet Union.

Past that it was just a cold Autocratic nation.

Actually in Russia he is called Peter the First more ofthen than Peter the Great. He was given the title of Peter the First because he was the FIRST emperor of Russia.

Normal people? You didn't know that Peter the First and Peter the Great are the same person. I didn't know that you consider unintelligent people normal in America.

Name atleats 5 cicties in Russia without looking at a map. Or a few major rivers. My parents were born in Russia, yet they know all the states and state capitals, they know all the major rivers. They studied Americas geography in high-school in Russia. Here most people can't find Canada on a map even if you point it out to them.

He's one of those faggots who wears a Che shirt that he bought at a chain clothing store which manufactures and employs child workers who live in shit conditions.

Of course, now he's trendy.

I dunno, I just think he's trying to steal the "Most Annoying Poster on Newgrounds" award from MatthewTheLion.

Actually I didn't click on that link.

He did actually; he was referring to the fact that in every history book given out into the world he is referred as Peter the Great over Peter the first.

You've read every history text book in the world? I don't care what you guys call him. In Moscow there is a statue of him, it says "Petr Peviy" which means peter the first. This is what everyone calls him in Russia.

Every one in the world calls Americans assholes. That doesn't mean that you call yourselves that.

What an astounding feat! I do wonder why they would learn American geography over Russian.

I never said they haven't learned Russian geography. They learn that in grade 3.

Yeah… Canada’s hard to find, tiny Country. You must be speaking of the mentally impaired? Now, are you referring to Americans or your "Mother land?" Either way the education systems around the world are so pathetic it's meaningless to defend which is better.

Actually USA and Canada are on the bottom. Russia has 100% literacy, USA 97%.

Moscow. St. Petersburg. Smolensk. Ummmmm......crap......

Only river I can think of at the moment (probably any moment...) is the Volga.

Alright, name 5 cities in Michigan without "cheating".

Then 5 in Wyoming.

I'm guessing the second would be more difficutl.........

Ok Moscow, Vladivostok, St.Petersburgh,Magnitogorsk, and Ekaterinberg. This would be alot easier if Russia's geography did not keep changing.

You people have seem to miss the fact that the economy of Russia has been growing very quickly over the pass 5-6 years. This is due to the fact of Putin creating a more friendly business enviroment (increased security, a new low flat tax, increased foreign investment, etc) and the strategic takeover by Putin over Russia's natural gas and oil (Yukos anyone?).

The economy has grown by about 5-6% a year for the pass 6 years and from the way Russia is looking now, this will most likely continue for a long time.
(To put this in comparison, the U.S economy grows at about 3.5% a year, Western Europe about 0.5-2% a year, and China 9% a year, so considering the economic growths of other countries, Russia is doing good).

So economically, Russia will continue to improve over the next decade or so and will continue to alleviate its poor with the increased income that all Russians will have because of a stronger economy.

Militarily, Russia will most defintly get better over the future as th Russians have been able to fund more money into their military from increased tax revenues (thanks to economic growth) and from technological advances (Russia is still #2 when it comes to military technology).

Geopolitically, Russia might have a few problems. Countries that have normally been under Russian influence, such as former soviet republics (excluding the baltic states), have been distancing themselves away from Russia (Think the red revolution in Georgia and orange revolution in Ukraine). However, in the middle east, Russia's influence will most likely grow with the fact that it has opened talks with the new Hamas government and have offerend military equipment to numerous countries in the middle east. The Russians have even sold missiles to Iran so the Iranians could repel a possible airstrike from Israeli airforces.

So in short, I think Russia's future is looking bright from the events I have observed in Russia.
And to the noobs who think Putin is dragging Russia down the shitter, Putin has practicly lead Russia out of its Depression in the 90s (Thanks to the turd Yeltsin) and has just about put an end to the chechen conflict.
