We have the same law here in Georgia. I hate it, i think it infringes on bussiness owner's rights. if a customer doesn't like someone smoking they can leave.

Did you know Hitler and the Nazi party was the first party to actually ban public smoking?
Years before their allied counterparts.

The city of Austin recently banned smoking inside bars. There has been a lot of controversy over this, since it's a hindrance to bar owners. Also, you can have smoking lounges, but you aren't allowed to serve food there. I'm not a smoker, so I don't really care. I'm not old enough to go to bars anyway, so that's also a non-issue. However, when I turn 21 and decide to go to a bar every now and then, I'll be glad that the air won't be smoky.
Think you're pretty clever...

Same here in Madison. Bunch of fucking idiots. They're complteley hypocritical speaking against the patriot act. But then they turn around and say "We're banning smoking." So they first say "we don't want the goverment to impede on your daily life" and they fight against it. But then they turn around and do that fucking shit?
Mother fuckers, the liberals here are also rich. So I guess it's more rich people I hate.

I'm a smoker, but i fully understand why smoking is being banned in public in the UK, there are a lot more non smokers than smokers out there, and i bet they really dont like the smell of thier clothes after being in a smoky place, hate having to dodge plumes of smoke coming from peoples cigarettes when theyre at a table talking to friends. People seem to be forgetting that smoking KILLS people, and not everyone wants to inhale smoke.
So if youre gettin pissed off about your freedoms being stopped, then tough shit, sooner or later smoking will become illegal and rightly so, its a disgusting habbit that kills people and wastes thousands of pounds of peoples money. I know people will bang on about thier right to smoke, but other people have the right not to smoke, and by wanting to smoke around these people you are disrespecting thier rights.

It infringes the rights of the owner to run their business. Techinically, smoking is NOT illegal, but yet private businesses are being the only ones being screwed over this ban.

if they don't like the smell of someone smoking in a restraunt, they have the ability to get the fuck up and leave. The only person who should have a right to tell people not to smoke in a place is the owner of that place. I promise you, if the demand is high enough, many non-smoking restraunt will be made(I know several existed here before the law was created). Why should bar owners suffer and cigarette companies suffer just to make people, who arn't even their main clientele, more comfortable

You can't really use "smoking kills" as an arguement, that's pretty ignorant. There's more shit in the air which kills that has come from car fumes and from industrial practices.

This is crap it goes against freedom, I don't mean to be paranoid but this is the first step in creating a care state. Fair enough ban advertising and stop kids smoking but when you turn 21 your old enough to make your own decisions I say everyone should be aloud to smoke. this passive smoking thing is just a lot of crap the government didn't even do an independent survey and now hundreds of bussiness owners are gona suffer because of some pompus middle class scum who couldn't stand the smell of a ciggerrate for 20 seconds as they order their latte to go.
It makes me so mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t be for smoking in restaurants. Seeing as it’s where people eat, but bars are a different thing. It’s basically a place where you’re drinking poison (I’m not anti alcohol) and trying to sleep with a stranger (not anti ONS).

I think anything should be illegal to be smoked, anywhere. I don't care what you put in your body but smoking it subjects other people to it. Smokless tobacco and stuff though I don't care about.

What about restaurants with bars in them?
Anyway, many fancy restaurants people go on dates to they spend the night drink champagne or wine(poison as you call it) and trying to sleep with a person who might have basically be a stranger before that night. You argument for why bars are better to smoke in than restourants is silly. A better argument may be that many people only smoke when they drink. If a person can no longer smoke when drinking they may enjoy themselves less and thus spend less time at the bar and buy less drinks.

Business owner's rights? What bollocks is this? Does someone suddenly get more rights when they own a business? Crazy Americans and their right-wing bollocks.
As for the smoking ban, you guys do realise that without the smell of smoke you'll actually be able to smell a pub? That's not a good thing.

Don't make me drag up the THOUSANDS of statistics showing that smoking kills........
That had to be one of the WORST things I've heard on these boards. "smoking kills, that's ignorant!" You gotta be shitting me, there's more shit in the air that kills us? Yeah, prove it, cause last I checked, people were living till like 90, and dying of natural causes, not air pollution. Oddly enough, that smoking thing seems to be linked to a few thousand deaths a year.....hmmmm......
We're all gonna die some day, so why worry about death and enjoy your life while you have it.
Yeah, but I'd like to live a little bit longer. If you smoke, you take away a few years, and if I inhale it, you take away a few of my years.
Just cause we're all gonna die doesn't mean we should shorten it any........

Smoking is unhealthy to others who don't smoke. Unhealthy things which affect others should be banned. If you want to kill yourself in exchange for "looking cool" then go ahead but dont take others down with you. If you wanna smoke in public places then move to a shit country and take your death sticks with you
