With the sources that were given(wikipeida links) all the cases and groups were non catholic.

I didn't say all(though i've never heard of Catholics bombing them) but the ones given were protestant.

We may have different beliefs, Lucifer, but I agree with what you said 100%. I noticed how orthadox jews, christians, and germans in general don't go rioting when someone makes a statement or cartoon about them. It's about thick skin, and if someone says something you don't like then deal with it.

I think a problem that people keep having is they have a poor misinterpitation of what "Free Speech" is.

First off, "Free Speech" DOES NOT EXIST on Newgrounds. It just doesn't. Thats why Newgrounds has those niffty terms of service rules. If the Walrus is found to be in violation of the Newgrounds terms of services, his animation can be removed and depending on the infraction, Tom Fulp can ban him, take him to court, whatever. Its Tom Fulp's website, and as such, your cannot post anything that the Government or Tom Fulp feels is innappropriate or illegal. If this were not the case, then we could post hardcore pornography and claim "Free Speech." Thats why we have the Whistle, Mods, and such.

Before I move on, lets entertain the latest YAAFM flash for a minute. I've seen it, and quite frankly, I find it both humorous and offensive at the same time. I will admit that while watching it, there were parts where I chuckled and parts were I chringed. Lets face facts here. It was pretty damn funny in some parts. "Stop bombing shit," had me in stitches. I also liked some of the prods at christianity in it. However, it does tend to overgeneralize, and thats not quite fair. Plus, he doesn't have all his facts and sterotypes in order.

Now, for my second arguement, I'm going to borrow from Stanley Fish's essay "There's No Such Thing As Free Speech and It's a Good Thing Too," of which I am a fan. In the essay, Fish makes the arguement that Free Speech is an illusion. He argues that Free Speech cannot exist becaues Speech is an action, and as such, can be controlled, regulated. In fact, according to Fish, the only way the First Ammendment would apply is if your speech had no context, and the only thing you were claiming the right to was the right to make noise. Because Speech has context, it gives itself a sense of action, and our actions have an effect on the world in which we live, and sometimes those effects have negative repurcusions, and if they do, we should be able to regulate and punish those actions and the people who do them. Its this principle that allows the Government to censor despite the First Ammendment, allows for laws against "Hate Speech" and the like.

Now, one shouldn't jump to the arguement that Fish is an ignorant person, far from it. He states that his arguement is also important because it is what gives Speech its true meaning.

Lets say that hypothetically that I walk into a largly African-American community with a bullhorn and a large sign on my shirt that said, "I HATE NIGERS. ALL NIGERS SHOULD DIE." Then I would proceed to shout that same phrase on my bullhorn.

Now, Fish tells us that if Speech has no context, then therefore theoretically nothing should happen to me, because what I say has no meaning. HOWEVER, because what i say DOES have meaning, I think we all know what would happen to me in that situation. (Another interesting note is that i purposely have to mispell niger so that the BBS will allow the post, another way to show how Free Speech truly doesn't exist)

According to Fish, Speech is only free when it has a benificial effect when it benefits the dominant political party. In its truest form, Speech is a powerful political device and it is in politics that its context becomes the most meaningful. Ergo, the bush political party can declare certain acts of Speech to be in breach of laws, because they are not in accordance with its agenda.

Well, if we take that into account, then in reality, since there are thousands of different opinions, and we can assume that their is a possiblity that each one could become the majority, then it stands that all speech falls outside the range of political protection.

The reason this arguement is so relative is because when we take this context, both the Danish Cartoons, YAAFM, and the Muslim protestors, as Fish calls them, "become wolves wrapped in the First Ammendment clothing."

People are so afraid to denounce those things, backing them up on the Free Speech principle, but if we take Fish's arguement, then they all fall under the form of action, which we, the people can place restrictions on.

I was born in the US, and my dad migrated here, so that doesn't make me an immigrant. I do know how things work around here, as i have lived here for the majority of my life. Whats your point? Who are you to say who is and who isn't civilized? Under no circumstance to you, but when you fuck with someone that hasn't done anything to you at all, your going to fuck him up, or your going to be a chicken and do nothing, which is what most americans do. There is absolutely no room for debate here. This is Newgrounds. We have Flash on here about Christians, Jews, gays, blacks... Muslims damned sure don't deserve any kind of special treatment.
