Welcome to the N.G.I.H club.
This is a club focused solely on the newly added feature that Tom has apparently put in.
Newgrounds Icon Helper is a feature that will allow flashes without an icon have someone make it an icon.

This will allow certain flashes to recieve first page honours even though they unfortunately are unable to create a 46x46 .GIF image to preview their flash, and to stop auto-voters for voting low on flashes just because they have the default image.

The Images

All image MUST be 46x46, and be GIF images. Don't do what i did... attempt for half an hour to submit an image that's a .JPEG or .PNG.
You simply take screenshots of the flash, resize it and submit it for the author's futher use. Programs used may be Photoshop, Flash, MS Paint, Paint.NET etc.
I can't afford photoshop so I use Paint.NET, and it is quite efficient.

Submitting .GIFS

Make sure that .GIFs are 46x46, beneath 30kb (ridiculously easy). After that, find the appropriate flash (Ctrl+F VERY helpful here), then click submit, then scroll down the page to the very bottom, the flash would be "Flash selectd "xxxxxxx", click browse for image, find your image then click submit. then it will tell you you've submitted it, and will say the # of submissions to the flash.

Goals and Projections

Right now, the percentage of flashes with icons is dangerously weak. Its shocking, disgusting and pitiful. Now we Intend to intially increase the percentage to 50%, then our long term aim is 90%+. We also intend to have each member submit at least 2 .GIFS a day, its less then a ten minute effort, so don't be lazy. You can submit as many times for as many flashes as you want, I can't stop you.
Soon, the quality of the expectations of flashes will increase dramatically. This will make the general viewing and voting public more educated and become smarter and better voters, as its a neccessity for the purity and efficiency for newgrounds.

Approximately 33% of all flashes in need of Icons have them. We need to raise this by a massive amout. It's for the good of the site.

I have to say, I like the idea. I think this can contribute... I tried myself a couple days ago but had not time... Here is one I made for Abbey's squirrel hunt. What do you think... I would like to join but I may not be that active because of other commitments... But I will do my best, that's about all.

everytime your on NG, spare a few mins, make sometimes flash somewhat reputable.

It's not about bandwidth (and if you want to get technical, you're talking about webspace, not bandwidth), it's the fact that some of you will be doing more than one icon (I'm pretty sure of that) and we don't need to see every icon you and your buddies have made. The icons are in the main flash pages, so no need to post a short, " <post> Here's my icon for ________ movie *insert icon pic* </end post>.

from now on, if you submit a pic and wanna post it, you cannot post it consecutively.
if you would like to submit multiple images, then post a combined pic of all of them in the one pic, links to their respective flashes and notify which pic belongs to which flash.

You might want to talk about what programs people are using, what's considered a "good icon" vs. a "bad icon," and how to capture that "one in a million" icon pic.

Yea, if I hadn't got distracted and read the second half of Andersson's Newgrounds Expert Residence thread/club, I would've posted something similar to what RedCircle is saying.

I think this is a great idea, especially since it encourages people to upload icons and it's greatly helpful. But, since the pictures are already stored on Newground's servers, perhaps it would be better if you guys just linked to all the flashes you upload and people will be able to see them in the future when the icon moderators have approved them.

I dunno. I like the club idea, just avoid the posting of one icon per post.

TECHNIQUES

as suggested by REdCircle

LEts start off with different programs. The one you'll want is Adobe photoshop. But if you cannot afford it ie: ME, than there are plenty of free programs out there to edit images. Im not too familiar with a wide wariety of range, but you can use these free ones such as MS Paint (All computer Standard) or Paint.NET which is a free alternative to photoshop

after you learn how to resize the image to 46x46, then you'll have to get the hang of the "Perfect pic".

Now, the desired picture required is all about the type of movie/game you have.
If your movie is a comedy, then take a screenshot (the button next to scroll lock)
If your pic is to big to get desired result from image, than resize, make it taller, fatter etc. then paste again. Programs shall be discussed later on in topic when active members are online.

As for desired screenshots, as I said, in Comedies. take Screenie at peak of hilarity.
If its a serious short, then often take a photo of a main character or an essential image in the storyline. If its a game, best to take screenie at peak of the action, so its previews viewers of its action, or a main character...

ok, simple enough. first off, make you 46x46 .GIF. Then, click the "Upload picture" next to your movie. then, scroll down to bottom and click upload to upload your actual picture.

ok, ive done 4 images for different movies, but it keps telling me invalid movies parametrs. WTF?! I know im doing it perfectly right, but its seems to be making errors...

I actually have been approving a lot of icons of late.
Sionce I have a vast range of flash I have seen before and my good memory it helps approve them.

If you happen to come across a submission that has been removed by an author.
Please do not waste your time making an icon for it.
Any of the movies currently named delete*, remove* blank*, etc all have an icon made by me,it was made so others knew not to approve them.
I havn't had to remove any icons made by anyone in this club yet, otehre are others making icons that I have replaced with my icon.

If you come accross a movie that has not been renamed to delete or remove, please
use this icon. Thanks

yea, i was gonna say, i had noticed a lot of people submit images for flashes that dont need it. Also, it seems that image submitting favours the top and bottom. This is unacceptable. If you want to look for specific flashes uses Ctrl+F and search so that the middle gets sorted out.
