Unfortunately, your way of thinking hasn't stopped Disney getting rich. Multiple skin colours I'll agree with, but you only need a few different tones before you're trying to do fine art every frame.

They're not trying for an oil painting. They're trying for a Flash animation. Even Farr or Phillips don't use more than, say, six skin tones for a single character.

Oh I read through it. Interesting rant on colour theory. But you missed the very important thing. They weren't asking for your views on super realism. They were asking for a single colour to use as skin tone

But now reminding myself we're in the flash section and not on art forums (*sob*), colour grabbing from professional modelling photos (high quality colours) works fine.

Don't go picking a colour 'that looks like it' from your palette or whatever, your change is very very high it's wrong, that is, if you want the 'perfect' skin colour.

Praytell, how is your solution different from my "use a reference and the eye dropper tool" ?

To further show you the error of your ways when it comes to animation, I have prepared a fake cel of Simba from the Lion King. Note how he's made up out of, yes, six colours and black. Whilst you could create a super realistic texture map, the only place it has in animation is in 3d Animation, which has not been too successful with the photorealistic stuff (anyone remember "The Spirits Within" ?) as it has been with the less realistic stuff (Shrek)

That's because the posts don't relate intelligence-wise. they are blurts of the mind in a current state in relation to the subject feeding from the knowledge about that subject and being processed trough intelligence. So what is in those posts tells more about one's knowledge then intelligence.

no, he was asking what the most common skin hue is. or what we recommended he used. he didnt ask about what truly makes up the human pigment, with all of its intracacies and flaws. he just wanted to know a hexidecimal or RGB value for a color he should use.
