There are about 52 women for every 48 men. That does not explain why, if makid is correct, there are 67 women in college for every 33 men.

If there are jobs that require confidence in yourself and your team, and a black and a white score the same on the written test, while even if the white has all the confidence needed, and the black is a little withdrawn, he will still get the job... because hes black. its just not right

The OFCCP has since 1972 specifically prohibited the use of quotas, that specify a hiring or promotion decision to be based on a racial or gender preference. The OFCCP policy is explicit in that "at no time is there any expectation or requirement that people be employed by quotas and that affirmative action means engaging in good-faith efforts to broaden the pool for hiring and promotion." The OFCCP rules go on to state that "goals may not be rigid and inflexible quotas which must be met, but must be targets reasonably attainable by means of applying every good-faith effort to make the affirmative action program work, and that goals are not to be used to discriminate against any applicant or employee because of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin."

There is a big difference between affirmative action and quotas which most people are just to lazy to ever take the time to understand.

To make this really simple:

Affirmative action: equal opportunity
Quotas: opportunity based on pre-set limits

So thus quotas have been prohibited for quite a while now because it was a stupid idea. There may be a few universities left using quotas under the guise of a different name, but I still maintain that it is a dumb ass idea.

Agreed, but is Affirmative action not just another form of the same discrimination? Obviously not as bad, but still hypocritically executing the same practice it's meant to stop?

The only way it ever manifests itself as favoritism these days is in applying for colleges. While the quota system is mostly gone, minorities (especially those living in urban areas) get a little bit of a grace when it comes down to required GPA's and similar aspects. The theory being, that their schools just weren't good enough to reflect the candidates true potential. While I can understand some merit to the concept, I still think it is attacking the problem at the wrong side. The efforts should be made to improve the schools, not make getting into college easier.

Still, the heart of affirmative action is removing the racial bias from work and school which I still support strongly. It's just in the exicution that that things get really messy.

Infact, we have the National Hispanic University-- walking distance from where I live.
It promotes Mexican heritage.

This isn't an exclusive thing to Blacks. September is Latino Heritage month.

I've never seen any of these racist. Anyone can join up. White people complain about, but they can just go to National Hispanic University or Teatro Familia Atzlan and say, "Hey can I join?" And they'll let them.

So what if it's furthering the race of one people? Blacks (and Latinos) are economically and socially disadvantaged, so let us try to get ourselves out of the pigeon hole.

You can't compare KKK with a university who wants more black, because whitey can join with the black college. And it frequently happens.

Do you know why we have Black History Month? Because our history text books are nearly always from the Caucasian point of view.

History books generally over gloss certain real important aspects of history and over emphasize others. What's the Mexican's view on Manifest Destiny? Oh boy-- you know mine cause I'm always on the rag on that one! How about illegal immigration on part of Americans? Oh, how I would love to see that in text books.

We're achieving equality, but Blacks are still at an disadvantage for several reasons and empowering does infact help them out. A month celebrating it is small. Damn... we give them the month with the smallest amount of days... how fucked up is that!

We complain, "Oh there's no White History Month". What can I say... We have White History Year, so I'm rather happy to see we have months celebrating ethnicities.

Most history books focus on white people and making a "white history" book would only perpetuate the problem. If creating something causes a problem, making more will only add to it.

It's funny how affirmative action works in favor of groups with lower average IQs in lieu of working in favor of high IQ groups-namely Ashkenazi Jews and Asians. No, I'm not making this up. If you want sources, I'll give them. But overall, affirmative action is stupid. It's reverse discrimination and always seems to favor the minority.

It's just annoying how schools and cable television distorted its original meanings .This is Black History Month when you're not black ; Junior year in High School you are in U.S History class beginning to learn about Civil Rights and then february comes along and you are obliged to quickly learn about MLK , Malcolm X , Freedom Riders , and Civil Rights Movement in its entirety. Then you are forced to watch Roots ( all of the series ) and write a 3 page essay about it , and when you turn on the TV you get black people popping up out of "nowhere" to talk briefly about Black History while on a countdown only to "magically" disappear never to return again as soon as February ends and so ends Black History Month for someone who's not black. There's gotta be a way to approach and talk about Black History better than how schools and cable televisions are doing, they know that they're purposely doing a lousy job at it and don't attempt to improve it and make it more respectable.

It's a well-known fact that political correctness is racism in sheep's clothing.

It's my luck that I bump into these topics most of the time. All of these things don't mean a damn thing if we still have the idea of equality in our society and demonstrated throughout. So what if there's a Black College? It would be possible to enroll if you're white or yellow if you pull some strings. For what happened happened so every possible ethnicity should forget about the wrong that the other has done to it. I mean blacks are not going to get their reparation and mexicans are not getting texas back. Shit happens and we should just forget about that shit and move on.

The least you can do, for me, is to enlist the help of "Grammar for Dummies" before attempting to solicit something as 'serious'.

His post has already been talked about, debated, turned into common law, and written into the law books. He just hasn't, obviously, seen them yet. Half of his answers are solved via common sense, and rest are, quite frankly, extremely shallow.

An easy comparison of minorities and majorities would solve that entire arguement. When 80% of the population in public and private colleges consist of a white majority, I think you've just been given your 'White college'. And if you want proof and/or a list, go to any career center at your high school or college, pick up one of the many books that list the colleges (and all the specific information about them) and look around. You'll be suprised.

And to top it all off, go look up "reverse discrimination".

If you want a 'White history month', you get a 'white history day' virtually everyday you enter your history class. Do you think the Romans were black? The Grecian? Sumerians? Indo-Europeans? Egyptians? Aryian? Unless you're taking a specific class which talks about the history of Africa and it's civilizations, save for Egypt, African Americans will only be referred to as slaves. The same applies for Asians, as Asia has a very vast and extremely eccentric history and is commonly taught in world history. They even have their own classes strictly for Asian Civilization, just as African Americans do. Anything beyond that, you're talking about either the business or corporate world, not federal.

And honestly, from my experience from actually being in the 'real world', or the more adult side of life where your career comes into play, no black person will get a job over a white person just because he's black. You can take my word for it.

All races are different, Intelligence wise white men/woman have larger brains on average where as blacks are more used to heat so over time there bodys addapt and there DNA gets passed through, that's why blacks usually average out as being better runners etc.
