4.09 / 5.00 15,161 ViewsHi, i havn't submitted anything to newgrounds for a good 3+ years. So i think its about time i finish up one of my games. I'm a huge rpg fan and i was just deciding on which of my games to finish, please tell me which seems most interesting to you:
-An rpg with Flash drawn vector graphics (see Extreme-SJA Demo, in my profile)
-An rpg with oldschool snes-style sprites and graphics, using a newly invented fighting engine somewhat similar to FFX-2's engine
-An rpg with oldschool snes-style sprites and graphics, using the fighting engine
-An funny rpg/adventure with oldschool snes-style sprites and graphics (Adventure meaning no fights or battles, Like a Franks Adventure kind of thing)
And all of those are already 25%-70% made (along with 23 of my other unfinished games) please help me decide which to finish, thanks.

I think the first one would be the best, but the other up there sounds cool too.
That depends on the quality. Basically, a lot of people on Newgrounds are suckers for sprite RPG games, because they get to look back on retrospect. However, a lot of people respect a good rpg made from your own vector graphics.
My suggestion is use a retro character and make it your own vector creation. For example, making an awesome Chrono Trigger game with your own graphics would be amazing. This is assuming that you are okay with your submission not being 100% original.
But anyway, make sure you add some originality to it.
Hi there!
i never said i was using sprites taken from another game. i may have created them myself...
anyway, the main facotr is with sprites i can add alot more into the game, make it more fast paced, and make the adventure potion of it more animated andfluid.
vectors look better but tend to be a bit limited based on their lengthy creation time, not to mention the glitches.
I want you to make an RPg that involves skill, and preferably isn't full of fantasy shit.
I also don't want you to make a game which is Final Fantasy-ish in any way.
Make a it good game! :D
I'm back! on a temporary basis. No-one can remember who I am! but I don't really mind.

What about a mix of every final fantasy game, except it takes place on a fantasy island with evil mystical fantasy beasts. The fighting will consist of clicking the attack button every few minutes.
Just kidding, i dont make fantasy games, not my style. And im a perfectionist, so i tend to put alot of detail in my work. come to think of it, ill actually release a small demo of each of those soon to give you a better idea of them. I appreciate the input, thanks.

Funny is pro. Plus i hate rpg battles.

doesn't that contradict itself?
Any of those would work. Personally, I've become fond of hack and slash recently, but that's just me. I guess seeing something with the abstract FF style battle system would be nice. Not seen one of those for a while.
Best of luck. You'll beat me to this punch I think...
...
The fighting engine one of course!!! And definitely not the franks adventure type one.

If you could combine those two it would be great. A rpg/adventure, with no fights or battles but with flash drawn vector graphics. :-)
Otherwise I'll settle for the funny rpg/adventure with oldschool snes-style sprites. :-)

i beleive i said a new engine that is 'somewhat similar' and not 'exactly the same'
well, I think im going to finish the funny adventure first, since it looks like thats what the majority of you want, not to mention its already 70% complete (i just need to rewrite the engine, redo some sprites, and add some more story elements.. pretty much bring the game up to date) Its a very funny game, it makes fun of lots of your tipical rpg elements. Im at work right now so ill post up a nifty demo when i get home from work in about 8 hours from now.
Oh, the story is your a knight on a quest for milk.
and the demo will take place in the 'Everything but Milk' store, where they sell everything... but milk.
Golden sun is a well designed game. The use of Psy-energy for powers such as push and that, in my view hasnt yet been beaten on any console. -Fire eblem
