A former Zachry Construction executive committed suicide today — the same week he was fired for sending an e-mail to a city councilwoman deemed "very racial and very discriminatory."

[ The sad thing is that he was probably right about the nightclub's effect on his neighborhood. However, he forgot that in our "great" society it is more important not to be 'racist' than it is to be logical or to stand up for something meaningful. ]

Poor guy - moral of the story, be careful what you do at work. I'd like to know what he actually wrote though.

There are alot of these threads arn't there.
Political Correctness is in it's usefull form more of a concept than a list of words. A person using one politically correct word after another is going to look very stupid and almost geek-ish infront of the people whom he's talking too. I would however choose political correctness over a "fo-pa"

I think the councilwoman greatly over reacted. She is supposed to be trying to help people, not get them fired! If i lived in her district I would campaign to make sure she didn't get re-elected. i'm sure there is more to this story than was released, but she still greatly overreacted i'm sure. The company was just acting in their interest. they didn't want to be seen as racist i'm sure. Any company would have done the same.

Even if he wrote a really stupid letter, should a reliable 27 year-old employee be fired? Why is our society so illogical?

Political correctness is just an anti-eugenic strategy Western nations use to help breed sheep over real people. Afterall, sheep are more compliant and more likely to buy things they don't really need as opposed stable/independent individuals. The problem for me is that sheep make life hell for those that are actually intelligent or have good values.

the best part about political correctness is that it only goes one way. A black person can call me a honky all he wants, but if I call him a n***er, I get called a racist. Fucking hypocrites

Political Correctness?
He may not use the language,
but the man is saying the night club is a trashy place for poor people.
I don't know how's that racist... unless he's saying it's attracting poor and black or Latino people.
When I bought my house, I had one ex-neighbor who moved out to a better one because apperently... it's going to the dogs,
and I was that dog.
I really don't know what to say,
other than that I'm not upset the man lost his job for writing a letter about the "elements" of his neighborhood.

Employee fucks up on a big deal project, employee gets fired. It's simple enough. No one made him take the steps after that

Fuck globalisation. To avoid getting shot and beaten by angry people who feel that you are stepping on their feet although they are intruding YOUR land and territory. Spoiled brats they are, a lot of them (Including every single American who immigrated from Europe and drove the native Americans away from their homes and killed most of them). I guess people are scum, everywhere, everyone. Oh well, I'll blame it on instict of surivial.
Sweet political uncorrectness. Oh to make it better: After the generation who grew up in the 1960's and smoked pot all day long and had the IQ of a toadpole, and all the men in fear of women because of the "sexual liberation I am worth more than all you men" revolution somewhere in that time period, which scarred them for life and made them fear retribution stop being in power in society, racial and economical discrimination will once again regin supreeme.
Take this with a pinch of salt or five.

Ha, I find it interesting that saying 'undesirable, low class elements from bad parts of the city (who come into) our upper class part of the city for which we pay a very large tax burden in which to live to be safe and be away from such elements.' is considered as meaning Black, Hispanic, or any other race which is not his, with no regard to the fact that it mentions nothing of the such. So what I submit is this; Who is truly racist here? The man who refered to people of a lower class as being unlawful, or the people who assume that 'lower class' means he's refering to another race?
So I'm basically awesome.

You're dumb. The reality of the situation is that they expression is going to mean a place with a large minority population.. Realizing that as a truth does not mean that one condones it.

Zachry fired Dickerson for violating the company's computer use policy.
Whether it was racist or not he violated the rules, therefore he got fired. They're trying to change it so it sounds like he was fired solely because it was racist, which is not the case.
Get over it, if you violate the rules you get fired. That's how companies work.

You're smelly. The fact remains that they assumed that he could ONLY be refering to an alternative race than his own, remaining ignorent of the fact that he was refering to their economic status. That's not racism, it's classism, which isn't quite so fopah.
I realize that people in economic straights like the ones he refered to tend to be in a minorities, But majority still doesn't justify an assumtion, it would only be justified if 100% of that minority were poor. It may seem obvious, but he was fired over someone's speculation, and that's not right.
So I'm basically awesome.

If i told you I was watching a basketball game would it be wrong of you to assume most of the players weren't white?

Most. Not all. They assumed that all were minorities. I'm sure there were plenty of white people in the group he discribed.
Also, I'm Canadian, so I have less exposure to minorities in Basketball. Your example doesn't exactly hit home for me.

Your discussion is retarded, since we don't have the full text of the email to look at.
Maybe right after that he said "I want these filthy gook spics to get the fuck out of my reich before I holocaust their asses."

Get over it, if you violate the rules you get fired. That's how companies work.
Executives would probably just get a quick slap on the wrists for breaking the rules. But the minute the companies integrety is on the line, thats when they take things serious.
For legality reasons, he was fired for violating the companies use of the e-mail system. The real reason was because his racism became public and if they would have kept him around, that racism would be linked with the company. Which is never a good thing.
In any case, The council woman was right to make it public. one person in this thread said that council people are there for the people. And she was.
She looked out for the citizens who did nothing wrong by reporting a rich, racist executive. She'd definitly have my vote if I lived in that city.

He deserved to be fire. Using company computers and company email means you abide by company rules and regulations, and a company that allows racism in their company is going to get a very bad rep so for PR issues they couldn't really not fire him. Two of the people who recently were fired are now pulling the race card for the reasons they were fired. One was fired for emailing porn to other co-workers using the company computer, which isn't a good thing to be doing at work. Other guy is pullign it because I didn't get fired because he attacked me at work and I defended myself. But luckily video tape saved my job.
