For the last week this forum has averaged about 2 posts per day, which is kinda on the slow side.. Why this is the case? I'm not sure...
Andrea's stories of the day... seem to be going to waste... which really sucks.
Anyways...
Considering, exams are over, I think I'll start some sort of sort of something....
Although I have a small question to ask first...
Does this forum run on "CONFLICT" or "DISCUSSION"?
The reason I'm asking this is because I think it would be interesting to hear what people like and want out of forums like this....

Yes, there is alot of conflict here, But often there used to be some lengthy Discussion, Conflict can often feed a good discussion, I do try & reply to posts but sometimes when confronted with a pasted news story or a big typed out piece of information the only thing you can do is read it, there is sometimes nothing to say, a post that says "Yeah I read it" is not really worth the effort, I did reply to Andrea's post about Churches being Exept from Heritage Protection law but nobody else did.

I read the Political Forum but I rarely, RARELY post here. I think I only have a couple times. Usually its because I want to write a long, drawn out, thought out reply to something and I never feel as if I have the time to do so, or I want to wait till I look up a point, or something to that effect, so I never get around to it. I'm going to write a post on Nationalism here though sometime in the near future. It just seems that I should put more effort in the posts on the Political forum so that they should be of higher quality, rather than organize my thoughts for 30 seconds and spew a rant thats nothing more than a wordy opinion.

Well, sometimes I don't post simply because I don't have anything to add to a discussion, other than a yup. So, if I disagree with someones statement I am more likely to respond, so that adds one for conflict.
For example. I just read a post by Pantomime_Horse about the dingos on Frasier island, I don't know much about the issues involved, but it sounds fine to me with the level of knowledge I have about the subject, so I didn't respond.
That brings up another point, I also don't post when I have nothing to add to a discussion, and I try to avoid superflous posts (at least on the political BBS).

So a small, emotionally driven topic, with a lot of controversy is the most effective type of topic?
Eg. Bugger's "communism rules" post, or "does evolution really occur"?

Yes, it is a shame my NSOTD posts go to waste, but that doesn't stop me from posting them! I try to get people posting, sometimes I just like others to be aware of what's going on in Philly to perhaps start a discussion of the differences/similarities in various BBS users' hometowns.
I also agree with Perdix. Sometimes I don't know enough about a topic. Although I think from now on instead of sitting and saying "Hmph. I know nothing about this!" I will post and say so, and maybe I can get some questions answered.
It does seem that conflict does cause most of the discussion here, eg the whole US Pres elections. Talk about the posts with that one!
Quote of the day: @Nysssa "What is the word I want to use here?" @freakapotimus "Taint".

As far as I know I'm the only communist that comes to this board and if you will Mos, look at your number of posts, then look at my number of posts, then look at your level, then look at my level

You know... I just realized I made a post like this before on the old BBS. Damn. Oh well...
---------------
Anyways yeah... I think I'll post a few wide-reaching, emotionally driven, all purpose topics on the forum. Hopefully that will help get the blood flowing... ^_^
