Watch the post dates on every topic you read. I just had to spend about 20 minutes deleting dozens of posts and I banned EVERY user who indicated in their post that they had noticed the date of the original post was long ago.

But I won't be so lenient anymore. If you post in an ancient bumped thread, you will find yourself banned. WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS.

Soo..... If we post in a topic, that we're not aware has been bumped from an ancient time... But it has... We will be banned for sure?

I can't read Roman Numerals though :'(
Its sort of a tell tale sign when most of the post have pictures after them. Thats when I check the date. Or if the I see the last post and its spam.

You know what you wanna do with that, right? You wanna put a banging donk on it!

Maybe you should put that in the bbs rules, because the rules only state not to bump old topics, but doesnt have any information on POSTING in bumped old topics.

Hey guys, just got ba- WTF HAPPENED TO NEWGROUNDS???

even if it's an ancient AND interesting post? maybe a legendary post that has been lost in the depths of the BBS for months?

here's a good time to ask something i'd been wondering lately.

so let's say there was a topic about something long ago.. a serious topic (serious for NG) and not a penis topic...

but if most of the people on the BBS are kinda newish.. and want to talk about the subject... sould they make a new topic? bump the old? or once somethings been talked about here is it now verboten no matter how long it's been.

because the ngbbs is always fresh and original after all...

Aw man, you should have fucked everyone around by changing the date on this thread back to, like, '02 or something, and ban everyone ^^

Yes. From now on. I've been lenient up until this point in time, but not anymore. It sucks that I have to take care of all this extra crap just because people are idiots who don't pay attention to anything.

If you can't take the extra 2 seconds to verify that you're not posting in an old thread, then you deserve not to post for a couple days.

So in other words we could make a new topic and if someone links the search bar, we can tell them to go fuck themselves?

Would the person who bumped the topic get a longer ban? Like spam topic starters get longer bans than the people stupid enough to post in it.

You know what you wanna do with that, right? You wanna put a banging donk on it!

How old must a topic be to be not allowed to post in it?

-Do not bump old threads needlessly. If you're going to get banned for posting needlessly in a thread, then it's safe to assume you're going to be punished even more heavily for bumping an old thread if your post doesn't contribute to that thread. Let old threads rest in the abyss.

It says nothing about a timespan, also when is it needlessly to post in such thread?

So I'm confused. I thought we were encouraged to bring back old threads if they are about a topic you wish to discuss or were about to make a new one about?

How would you define "ancient"?

one year? 6 months ago?

A few questions:

Is this topic meant specifically for the General forum?

How old does the topic have to be to result in a ban?
2 weeks?
2 months?
2 years?

Just asking that's all.

I was going to post something witty and intelligent here, but by the time I was done finding out the date of the topic, I forgot what it was.

I think this rule needs clarification... i support the mods in everything they do, but we need to have like a limit, like you can't post in topics over 1 year old or something.

Cause i regularly search for topics just to make sure they haven't been created and post in old ones.

I know you could argue, that if they are that old, they aren't worth reviving.

Also, maybe Jim could program an auto lock or something on the old topics, would be as simple as:
UPDATE topics SET lock='1' WHERE DATE_SUB(CURDATE(), INTERVAL 1 YEAR) <= date

Bumping is posting and posting is bumping. The rules are clear enough as they are written.

If that is the case, you need to find interesting and pertinent NEW information to use to bump the topic. Otherwise, don't bother. I'm obviously not going to ban someone for adding to the topic constructively, but when someone's got a one-line response like "OK.. what's you're point?" They're going to get banned.

It can't be clarified because it is subjective. If we clarified it any further people would just take advantage of it and run through loopholes all day long. We like to maintain a level of discretion when it comes to enforcing the rules.

By the way, I think within the past two weeks you successfully bumped an ancient thread. You had new and relevant information to add, and/or something interesting to say. I was considering quoting you and posting "HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW TO PROPERLY BUMP AN OLD THREAD" but I didn't.

Then why do topics get locked because they have already been done?

One day back seems the mod's are living up to their image. Heh.

Yeah sorry :), i read your post after mine and see.

That sounds fair to me! It's just like the saying goes "Let sleeping dogs" lie.
