Well it all really depends what kind of features you'd like to have. You know if you want a guitar with a thin neck, pickup type, number of frets, whammy bar or fixed bridge etc...Basically tell us a few things you're looking for and we'll help from there.

Both badass.
Yeah, except PRS guitars are overpriced by about $4000.
Get an Ibanez.

You really need to visit a music shop, and try out a lot of guitars. Read a guitar buying guide first (google), or bring a guitar expert with you. Most importantly make sure the neck is straight (if it's ghey, dont buy it). If you find a guitar that you like, but the intonation is screwed, then have the store fix it for you, and if it's still screwed then don't buy it. Play the guitar and listen for bad sounds as you play up and down the neck. Shake the guitar and listen for rattling noises that indicate loose parts or wiring. Basically go over the guitar with a magnifying glass for flaws. And don't buy it the same day, but come back the next day and if you still like it then buy it. It's so easy to rush out and buy the first guitar you see, but my advice is take your time. Don't go to a store knowing that you'll buy a guitar, or it may end in tears.

It's really hard to tell for other people when you give no info. Just go to a guitar shop and try out some guitars and see wich that fits you the best. Preferably you should try it on the same amp as you've already got.

Looking at the type of music that you're into, punk/metal, I'd go for a simple designed guitar that is easy to play, like a Gibson, a Fender, an Ibanez (even though they aren't that simply designed) the list goes on, seeing as there are over 20 guitar brands that have made a stratocaster (what the fuck is up with that?!).
If you want something different and snazzy, look for B.C Rich, Vintage, Abstract (if humanly possible) Jackson, Kramer and a few others.
Happy hunting!

if you're looking for an acoustic, go with either Taylor or Alvarez. I own an Alvarez and it is a very dependable, high-quality instrument. I played a Taylor and nearly soiled myself. Yeah.

Ibanez can be good so if you pay more than $800 then it'll be a good one. Jackson's are sweet guitars too.
Les Paul...Dream on they're expensive! Although you can get imation ones that are still good quality.

Dude, if your getting $1000 bucks then sweet. Get a Jackson Rhoads GUitar or a Dinky. Or an Ibanez RG or Jem if you have the cash. Or a Dimebag Dean Guitar. Dont get a gibson unless you get a zakk wylde les paul or a tony iommi SG, everyone will call you a rich bastard. Gibsons are nice but if you want lightning fast action get one of the ones that i said.
