I tend to think of a name for a song only a few minutes before uploading it and it's usual just an after thought. I'm just wondering, does anybody else does this or do they put some thought into the naming of their songs? I mean if you have a song in the classical section and you give it a like a death metal do you think it matters?

It's extremely important to me. The name of the song sums it up well or it sucks.

The name must fit the song. I usually pull something random... but some songs deserve the names they have.

The only rule i go by is:

'the song title has to be catchy so it can be remembered by the masses'.

Meaning, i wouldnt name a song like 'The subconcious mind of an inatimate spirit'. Id name it something like 'Thoughtless' or something of the sort.

Read the post i made in the topic i made a while ago.

In short:
My dad got pissed, grounded me, and 3 or so days later i got the computer back cause he gets really angry like hes gonna kill you then BAM.
Hes the nicest guy on the face of the earth.

So it was a pitiful little grounding that i got.

ohhh! Cool name. The subconcious mind of an inatimate spirit. I know that's supposed to be an example of a bad name but I really like that. It sounds mysterious....

The thing I don't like about one word names is that they tend to be used already or sound generic but I can see your point. Long names are harder to remember and they can sound pretentious.

naming stuff is simply a reflection of a name i was thinking when I thought up the song - as far as my originals go neways - they are usually some sort of celestial sounding names - because I like that sort of stuff - that paired with my trademark ascii - which goes through upgrades as I get batter - ensures those who know who I am know I have a new song - while those who dont know me cannot immediately recognize me submitting a new song and thus flame them.. everything I do is thought out..

I am so bad with song titles - its one of the hardest things for me to do when I finish a piece (heres to not being an english major!). I usually just think of something really cheezy or play a quick game of Boggle.

Boggle-now thats an interesting and innovative way to go about it. I for one LOVE making up titles. I feel that the title can make or break a song in MOST instances. I always get feelings and emotions from songs that put me into an attitude or a thought process, I try to convey that thought process to others by accurately naming my song within those parameters. Often I try to keep it simple enough so that like ZENON said, its easy to get stuck in the heads of the masses. But my true purpose is to set up your pre-disposed thoughts upon listening to my song so that when your listening your relating either consciously or subconsciously between the title and hopefully the emotions and imagery your getting off the song.

In simple terms I wanna further create the VIBE by using a good name.

Its just another part of being creative-and thats what its all about-thats the fun :)

Also, today I helped SolusLunes name one of his tracks-cuz I love doing it lol, and I am a ncie person-sometimes muhahahaha

Well if you check my musics song names you may guess that the name of the songs is not very important to me.

Does personalized ascii give you an advantage, or does it just help 0 voters find your music quicker?

yes to the first part - and the reverse is true for the second.

The thing about most stupid pickaxers is that they dont know who you actually are musician wise - the y just see your song as high and want to lower it - and if they see you on the new charts on the audio front page and it were to say something like "chronamut - amazing song #1" they would flame me MORE because they would be like "oh its chronamut lets get him"

but with ascii - only the pickaxers who are insanely dedicated to flaming me as a person will downrate me - as opposed to the drifters who will just pass me by without a second glance - its a code to let ppl who know me know ive submitted something new and let all the ppl who dont know me leave me alone..

Depending on the song of course and how it personally appeals to me, the name might come naturally to some songs and to others i have no idea how to name them so i just type the first thig that comes to mind.

As for being a catchy name, the more users that see the same thing that you see in your song and that understand why you gave that song that name, the more catchy the song is (confused?). I guess even if you have cool and popular words but they don't fit the flow or style of the song then catchy is dead.

R.I.P. Catchy, i'll always remember you.

American Standard Code for Information Interchange. This is the basic clear-text Latin characters. There are 128 standard ASCII codes, each of which can be represented by a 7 digit binary number: 0000000 through 1111111.
