Dont buy a retailing computer, build one. Its easy, and its just fitting parts together. Im sure someone will do it for £50 if u give him the pieces.

Get an amd 64 bit pin 939 on an sli board

Windows home edition (cheaper than pro)

Plenty of cooling fans,

2 gigabyte 400mhz Memory

one sata 120 gig hardd rive

And you're laughing

Ok...

Motherboard: Any PCI-Express Socket 939 motherboard. DFI, ASUS and MSI are good.
Processor: AMD ATHLON 64 4000+ X2 Socket 939 CPU
RAM: 2048 (2x 1024) Corsair XMS platinum
Video Card: 256mb EVGA E-GeForce 7800GT (PCI-Express)
Hard Drive: 300GB SATA hard drive (Or whatever you can afford)
Case: Aspire and Antec are good
Power Supply: 500Watts or more, with at least 26 amps on the 12v+ Rail. Antec, Enermax, and PC Power and Cooling are good.
DVD Burner: Anything above $45. Don't trust anything less expensive.

The total should come out a bit under your budget.

He's right, you wont see and advantage from windows pro, but they ARE releasing a new version in november (Windows Vista 2006)

Plenty of cooling fans,

Fans = Noise, so get a good steel/aluminum case, save money by getting a case that comes with a power supply, at least a 400w.

2 gigabyte 400mhz Memory

Thats a little unessecary, stick with 1gb on a single stick (prolly cost ~100) either kingston or corsair. And to upgrade you can buy another one later!

one sata 120 gig hardd rive

Serial ATA isnt important, but for the price different, and cabel management, its not a bad idea.

And you're laughing

Go with a 6600gt, mebbe even a 6800gtx cus they've dropped so much!

True. For games, there's only one way to go. AMD ATHLON 64. Or Intel Extreme Edition if you happen to have all that money =P and Do ALOT of multmedia and multitasking.

Windows home edition (cheaper than pro)
He's right, you wont see and advantage from windows pro, but they ARE releasing a new version in november (Windows Vista 2006)

Right, now for that budget get Windows 64 bit.

But Home Edition is FINE. My school uses professional and I can't see a difference.

Plenty of cooling fans,
Fans = Noise, so get a good steel/aluminum case, save money by getting a case that comes with a power supply, at least a 400w.

Don't trust Power Supplies that come with cases, 99% of the time they're pure and udder shit.

That would have been true a few months ago, but 2 gigs is really better now. 1 gig is fine, I happed to have 1 gig. But 2048mb is better now, with more and more apps and games taking advantage of it.

one sata 120 gig hardd rive
Serial ATA isnt important, but for the price different, and cabel management, its not a bad idea.

Uh... why ANYONE would go with a non-SATA hard drive in this day is beyond me. The technology is WAY different. And better. SATA is the only way to go.

Nice but if it is not set in stone you might want to check out DFI boards, they had the best one out for overclocking and junk like a couple months ago, I haven't checked in a while though.

Samsung SpinPoint 250GB SATA II Hard Drive SP2504C OEM

You might think about getting 2 120 giggers and putting them in raid.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800 2.0Ghz Socket 939

Nice, I am jealous now.

Looks like rig to be reckoned with.

Screw that! My best friend is a genius when it comes to computers. He put one together himself from a bunch of parts from other computers for less than $300. Guess what, there's ALWAYS something breaking down on it!..... Me; I spent $1000 on my new computer, got a high-quality printer for free, and the only problems I've had are so minor that they're not even worth mentoning!
