Incurable, can lie dormant in your body for years, and be triggered by many things. Most people carry the virus but not everyone suffers the sores.

If you're talking about herpes simplex 2, or genital herpes, 75% of people do not have it.

Herpes viruses come in many forms. Chicken pox, or varicella/herpes zoster virus is a herpes type DNA virus.

HSV-1, HSV-2, VZV, EBV, CMV, HHV-6, HHV-7, HHV-8 are from the herpesvirus family.
Double stranded linear DNA viruses with an envelope.

You can take antivirals for some of the viruses but for the sexually transmitted ones, you must assume their is no cure for them for now.
Antivirals for those prevent flare ups but you will still have the virus in your body as said earlier by other posters.

Oral herpes as well (the one that gives you cold sores).

Its true, hepres is a virus that people are born with, eventually it cripples them and forms into a horrifying form of lepresey. Basically its a dormant flesh eating virus. And the worst thing is, if anyone you know has it, sharing a tooth brush, touching them, or breathing the same air as them, will make you catch it. In some severe cases, people have lost over 50% of the brain power, had testicles surgicaly removed. The government encourages suicide with the hepres infected people, because they want to try and stop the infection ethically.
