Just where are you hanging out that you hear these "rumors" that there will be a Korean war will break out? Also you if you are finishing ROTC you don't even know what your MOS is yet, let alone have orders to Korea. Furthermore as a Marine you won't get "posted" to Korea, only the army does that, you can get posted to Okinawa and possibly be part of an exercise at Korea... but in the end you will go exactly where the monitor sends you. Don't think for a second that you will have much choice in the matter.

While there are a lot of guys in the Navy who like to work out, I imagine that's pretty typical in all branches of the military (which includes the Navy by the way)
There are a lot of little groups in the Navy, I know a few guys play warhammer on the ship and a lot of people will get in on a halo tournament. For the really nerdy hobbies it might take two small ships to have enough people for some activities, but the larger ships have enough people that if you look in the right place you can find some people who are into any hobby.

Thats quite true, when I lived in the Falklands for a bit, there soldiers and airmen there had loads of groups like that, best one was the guys with the consoles, they set up proper tournaments, it was a great laugh. Playing Goldeneye on the N64 (What a Game)

If you get orders to move to a different country they'll most likely pay for your house

nah the british army wont, they give you military owned houses if you have a family, or in the Mess if you are single.
You have to pay rent, of course.

All I can say about the military is that in the Navy you might get a home off base if you're high enough rank depending on circumstances. Depending on what part of the world you live it's possible to get a house even if your rank is pretty low. You are guaranteed a place to live though, no one gets kicked out into the streets.

I wanted to know what you guys think of joining the air force. That is part of my plan as of. I already got accepted into cllege and was thinking that I should get a Bacheleors in aerospace engineering. Then I was going to join the Air Force as a pilot while I work on getting an advanced degree in engineering. So what do you think?

Big mistake, unless, that is, you plan on going to college after a single tour then going back as an officer...or becoming a high enlisted and then transferring to the officer track.

That's a good idea, I think. As long as you go to college, because, as we all know, if you don't, you're pretty much stuck in a dead-end job. No offense to anyone! And, chances are, over your lifetime, a college graduate will make more than $1 million more than a high school graduate (and a high school graduate a 1/4 million more than a non-highschool graduate).

It's good to hear from a terrorist-hunter, by the way! If I haven't asked before, do you enjoy the Navy? Any plans for the future (in the Navy, out of the Navy?)?

It should be every citizens duty to fight for their country when their country is directly under attack, not because their government decided to invade Iraq.

It has it's ups and downs. I don't plan on making a career as an Enlisted sailor, but I do like working for the Government. My plans involve going to college after I get done with my enlistment, and then going to work for the military as a civillian, I think I can help the US out a little more if I get a more cerebral job.

i, from time to time consider the airforce after the school im planning to do (im guessing 5 more years, im over half the way!).
if i was forced to take the choice between the navy and the army, i'll go with the army, because i *bleep*ing hate being more than 30 feet from a place where i can stand on the bottom AND breathe.

I like your ideas. Oh, and does it ever seem to you that junior officers should actually be outranked by senior NCOs? I'm sure that the NCOs have more experience, at least, not necessarily academic, but technical for sure.

I don't think I'd ever join the army. I tend to have a problem with following orders blindly, and this would be compounded if those orders were "Go here and try to kill this group of people"
While I have nothing but respect for people like Dr_Arbitary, I would find the loss of my own autonomity a little scary.
Probably if it came to a 'kill or be killed' scenario, I would take a non-combat role like a medic if at all possible.

I can't join, because of my vision and my CP. However, the millitary has asked me quite offen to join. I got a 97 on the ASVAB and ever since then I get calls asking me to join. I have to explain to them why I can't go, but if I could join I think I would. I don't know how well I could deal with the whole "killing" thing, so I'd try to get a job doing something not combat related.
I don't have a problem with anyone joining the army or whatever. A lot of my friends are going to join.

I would if the neccesity presented itself. I'm no blind patriot or facist, but I love the ocuntry I live in and would give my life to protect it. However, being diabetic, I'm not elligable to join.

It's more of an understanding of the rank, if some 2nd lieutenant in the army ordered a CSM around he would have hell to pay, in a sence, it is mainly a balance of power
