Dune

I was wondering if anyone has read Dune, I don't mean watch the film, but actually read the series by the Herbert's.

I read Dune recently and was impelled to go out and find House Atredies, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Dune Messiah, House Harkonnen and the others....

Is there any chance that someone who has read it, could explain to me the Jesus concept in it?

Also, do you like them? Which is your favourite, and your favourite character?

The Dune books rocked. I liked Paul and the God Emperor. I don't know about a Jesus concept in the books though, I read them like 2-3 years ago. Theres defeniatly a big religous theme in the books though.

Dune is a good book...I have the Original novel and one called "Chapter House Dune" somewhere.

My father read the series, and he speaks very highly of it...

I think I'll go out and see if I can get my hands on the first novel.

Does anyone know how good the movie is?

Unfortunately I can't help you with that. I read the Dune books a long time ago and don't really remember much from them. I do want to re-read them, though, but only as soon as the Wheel of Time series is finally completed. That gives it probably about 2-3 years.

I just finished reading the first Dune a week ago. Very good book, trippy too. I like the part where all the people go on a super-acid trip and it makes the unborn girl supersmart. I might start reading Children of Dune soon, too.
But a jesus concept? Nope

Paul represents Jesus. He came to save them. Examine his relationship with his mother and wife and compare with Jesus' Marys.

The Messiah (not Jesus) concept is that Paul Atreides (Muad 'Dib, or "little mouse" in Fremen) is to be the savior of Arrakis. The Fremen and the Bene Gesseritt have predicted the coming of the Kwisatz Haderach (Bene Gesseritt word) for generations, and the Bene Gesseritt have manipulated the geneology to produce one at a planned time.

I meant the Wheel of time Series cause Baron had said he wasn't going to re-read Dune until he was through with them. I haven't read Dune myself.
