I have a problem... Hopefully, it hasn't been repeated before.

I made some music which I'd love to share on this site, but as one may know, it is in MIDI format as usual because it was made in Anvil Studios. Thankfully, I DID find a few free/trial MIDI-to-MP3 converters due to the search button here.

However, I'd apparently been using a rather old version of A.S., and it's 'FX 7: Echoes' instrument was outdated, and sounds a helluva lot different in the newest update of A.S.. I'm guessing now that all the newest MIDI-related programs and converters share only this new 'FX 7: Echoes' and not the old, because whenever I try converting the old MIDI file in the new converter, the Echoes are the new version, and that makes the whole song rather boring and repetitive.

So, can anyone here please tell me how to convert my old file while keeping the Echoes sounds the same? Thanks for your time.

There is a way to record live off the midi as it plays, however, some soundcards don't do it very well, and some can't do it at all.

(assuming you're on windows 98 onwards)

Go to accessories>Entertainment>Volume control

then click Options>properties.

A window will come up. Check the 'Recording' Radio button.

In the list below, there should be entries that say 'MIDI Synth', 'What U hear' or 'Audio Out'. Check all of them (or which ever ones you have), then click OK.

The fader bank on volume control will change to include those, and the button down the bottem, instead of saying 'Mute', will say 'Select'. Try MIDI synth first, if its available, then boot up an audio recording program like Audacity, start recording, and play your midi either in the program you made it with or your music player of choice. If MIDI synth dosnt work, try Audio Out, or What U hear.

As I said, not all soundcards are capable of doing this, and as a last resort, you can wire a jack cable from your headphone socket into your microphone socket...
