Being a top 2,000 Exp User is kind of a big deal. YOU are part of the select few that are able to vote on the best flash games and movies for each month. In doing so, your vote will be thrown into a pool at the end of the month, a user, chosen at random, will have a chance at winning a Prize.

So look out for the vote at the end of each month. :)

People who aren't in the top 2000 can do that, too. Because the top 2000 ACTIVE users (meaning they deposited their Exp at least once this month) can vote on the monthly vote.

Damn, it's 2008 and people in front of me still won't give up / die / get a life. Sometimes I dream about the top 100, my life is going to be awesome when I get there!

Click on your account options (underneath your username and Inbox tags in the top right of the screen. There will be an option labeled "monthly voting time", which you can click and vote on the best submissions for the month. The winners will get cash prizes.

Yeah, basically, the top 2,000 people who still come to NG and vote for most of the month count as active for this purpose..

About the top 1,000 they slow down and by the tim you reach the top 500, you're ranking up occasionally. By the top 100, you're ranking up and calling it an achievement in the Level Up! Lounge :P

I have been stuck at just above #300 for a long time.

It is hard to know now that this list isn't active.
Going from top 2000 to 350 was a pretty constant rise.

I hit the top 300 when I got to 13k experience. I've gained a few more ranks over the past 2 months or so. Your ascent to the top 300 shouldn't be too far away.

It doesn't really stop until you only have active users above you which is around top 100?

Well, if the users directly above you are inactive, you pass them quickly. If they are active, you get stuck behind them, because you can only gain experience at two paces - 10 or 0.

Going from top 2000 to 350 was a pretty constant rise.

I think the curve acts exponentially. It will level out, the higher you rise, as there are less users to pass, thus reducing the probablilty that there are inactive users ahead of you.

It's not too surprising that it gets thick and sticky around #300 nowadays.

Back in my day, it didn't get that way until around 250, 200, maybe even 150. I can't remember for sure.

But the site is growing and more and more people are wanting to stay active at the expings. And as those people get into the level 30+ zone, the further down the competition extends. If this keeps up, the entire top 500 may be very difficult to traverse in a good year or so from now.

If people'd deposit daily.... none of us would change rankings at all, though. So just thank your lucky stars there are partial AND complete inactives out there.

It doesn't really stop until you only have active users above you which is around top 100?

Going from top 2000 to 350 was a pretty constant rise.

It's not like everyone in the top 100 is active either, BTW. There's inactive users in just about every area of the list, even the top 50. Look at what happened to humantarget/shrapnel to let Pimp and Bomb take over.

They happen to be a lot less common in the top 50, though, because unless you go inactive when you're really high above the bulk of the top 50, then you're gonna get kicked out of it. That's how new people, new candidates like say Recon and myself, aim to get into the top 50 in the first place. Gotta wait for the oldies but goodies to lose their grip. And lose it they will, mark my words.

I've seen in 100s of times as I pass by old names on my way up. You don't get to #66 without seeing the bones of defunct legendary users pass below your feet many a dozen of times.

Actually my ranking has been jammed up in the 1400-1500 range for a really long time now. I'm only slowly gaining ranks. When I hit level 26 I ranked up +6 spots, which was sweet, but before then I was at 0 moves a day for almost 2 weeks.

Really/ I'd believe it, but I and in that area too and I haven't experienced anything such as that yet. Myabe it's just around the corner >.>
Speaking of legendary users, I look at the "total" stats on Casualty's NGLog page and I see people I pass or set a goal to passing. I passed Wade along time ago for example. It's a nice way to see stat progress :)

Well, first off.... have you missed ANY deposits at all during that range? If so, that would explain part of it.

Secondly, anything's possible. Maybe everyone in the 1400-1500 range while you were jammed up in it was another active user like you, and the gap between old idle users was great for awhile, so you were hardly making any progress.

And finally, hitting a level and ranking up a bunch at the same time's kinda a coincidence, unless a bunch of people decided to stop depositing right at that level mark under the new redesigned levels/icons because they like it a lot and want to keep it or something.

Even so, if I was going to do that I wouldn't stop depositing right at the START of the level, unless the exp number was really cool (like 12340 exactly or something).

But anyway, interesting...

Simple question for you - are you depositing every single day? If you are, then there's nothing to worry about, as you're gaining experience as fast as possible. If not, then there's a good reason why you're not gaining ranks - you're passing some inactive users, but other, more active users are passing you.

MTE when I was reading the first part of your post. Also, I had to check the timestamps to find out how far apart we'd posted. 30 minutes seems like a lot, but it's the lazy long portion of the middle of a weekend night for me. WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE, guy from the future (i.e. eastward across a large ocean from me, and already well into mid-day Sunday)?!? #;-}>

I haven't missed a single deposit since November I think, and that's 1 deposit missed in over 4 or 5 months I think. But I'm slowly but steadily gaining ranks now. I jumped 2 from last night. The thing that really is starting to jump now is my bp points rank. I'm gaining like 6 or 7 spots a day with that. But either way I'm happy, I just want to be in the top 1000 for both of them eventually.

I finally made it in to the top 300 users!

I was stuck on #301 for at least 2 weeks.
Or at least that is what it felt like.

Yeah, for some reason, there appears to be a glut just above 300 that you'll pass quite quickly. It took me about a month to gain 30 places, so you should be able to do that as well

And for myself, I'm at #404 right now (lol user not found error :P) and I am taking a lot of time to go from #410 to #400, so hopefully in about a week time (or less), I will be in the top 400 EXP.

Ditto. It's very strange when you see a NG legend, such as FIGMENTUM, Dobio and (above all!) bigbadron below your exp rank. But such is the life of a exp grinder, dull, torgid and slow filled with a few moments of what can be called, well, not exactly awe (for that would be a gross exageration), but suprise. I mean, c'mon, it's bigbadron! He's below me! I also remember how it was (moderatly) exciting to pass Wade in exp terms (he used to be very high in the list).

Oh, and gfoxcook, old buddy of mine (well, old acquaintance of mine), never forget that just as you "wait for the oldies but goodies to lose their grip", I'm always waiting below for you to do the same.

I was never below the other two you mentioned, though, so I wouldn't know about that.

Again, man. I've missed 4 deposits... that's just 40 exp... since 2002.

All 2003 long, all 2004 long, all 2005 long, all 2006 long, and all 2007 long... that's 5+ years, only 4 deposits missed.

It's going to take awhile to pass me when I miss LESS than one deposit a year on average.

And two of them were from June 2003 when I was out of town and the person who was going to deposit for me couldn't get into my account.

So really, I've only missed 2 deposits due to my own direct fault. That's 2 in 5 years. 4 in 10 years. 10 every 25 years. Do you still like your chances? #;-}>

I'm not a gambling man, but I expect your familiar with that well known old chinese saying: "when the rabbit strikes swift, the able turtle waits with patience unbecoming of a man, so that he may grill the ham and chesse sandwich and thus procure victory from the bottle of vodka".

So obvisouly, I'm destined to defeat you in this particular duel.

As is, indeed, prophesied in the book of NG prophecies, which was written by the greatest NG oracle of all, olskoo. As you must surely know, his last, doomed prophecy, just before disapearing from NG forever, was:

"The time of great evil shall come again, after the two great guardians Shrapnel and humantarget52 have fallen, VashTheStampede and rancidpsycojosh shall rise again, and when anime girls threatens to destroy NG, a user shall overtake all in exp. This user shall save NG from itself and he shall be known for his name, which begins with a "V", ends with a "t" and has and "e" and a "r" in between".

And, if that isn't enough, I'm 24 and you're 30. So, seventy years from now, when you're 100 years old and incapable of logging into NG, I'll still be only 94 and capable of using the internet!

So there you have it, three perfectly good explnations of why I'm destined to overtake you one day.

Nostalgic bastards!

Why, if you check his user page, you quickly discover that he is 141 in exp rank (and a complete bastard, but that's another story altogether). So yes, it'll probably take a while for you to pass him. But you must have surely known this already, right?

He's down to 142 now. There's 2.5k between me and him, so he's more than a long term goal to pass, as he's not stopped depositing. 250 days of missed deposits from Ron would let me past, but that isn't going to happen for a long while.

So yes, it'll probably take a while for you to pass him. But you must have surely known this already, right?

Yeah, I knew that, but I was just being too lazy to bother :P It sounded like you had him bookmarked anyway.

NEIN!

Again, man. I've missed 4 deposits... that's just 40 exp... since 2002.

All 2003 long, all 2004 long, all 2005 long, all 2006 long, and all 2007 long... that's 5+ years, only 4 deposits missed.

Yeah, but that turtle, as you just said, has more patience than you, so..... what? #;-}>

Yes, quite "obvious." #;-}>

As is, indeed, prophesied in the book of NG prophecies, which was written by the greatest NG oracle of all, olskoo. As you must surely know, his last, doomed prophecy, just before disapearing from NG forever, was:

Wow, Vash and RPJ... that's a blast from the past, right there.

I think that prophecy clearly refers to the NG user "Vret," though, not to you. Sorry, man. ;_;

And, if that isn't enough, I'm 24 and you're 30. So, seventy years from now, when you're 100 years old and incapable of logging into NG, I'll still be only 94 and capable of using the internet!

Before I even got to this last part, I was going to bring up age, as I assumed you were younger than me, and I was going to mention that was your one and truly only chance.... but you also realised that, clearly. Your third explanation is the ONLY good one, sir. #;-}>

And, in short... You'll have to outlive me by about a year to pass me, so... I guess we'll see, yes. I guess that's what you're banking on. Good thing for me? We don't all die when our age hits our life expectancy. Some die early, some die late. WHICH WILL YOU BE?!?! #;-}>

2500 exp, eh? Well, I remember being 100s, if not 1000s, of exp behind BBR, so... it's certainly possible to pass him. IOW, he may not be an entirely idle user dropping in exprank like a stone like some old users... but he's certainly not a never-misses-a-depositer, either.

This being around #300 is fucked, I haven't missed a deposit and I'm going backwards rankings.
I am going to be back out of the top 300 soon if this trend continues.
What happened to the whole, passing a sizeable group soon after 300 i was promised.
