Hmm... the meaning of life... wwhat does it all mean?
Intresting topic.
Does it have to mean anything? A person could sit and just think about this all night and day. I know I have on several occasions.
So what's the point? Where are we all headed? Why do we needlessly kill one another? Why are we here?
Douglas Adams summ'd it up best in the book "The HitchHicker's Guide To The Galaxy."
The Ultimate answer to the great question of Life, The Universe, and Everything is...
42.
Take that however you want to.

I think the meaning of life is to pay attention, but not in a serious way. In order to attain the meaning of life, all you have to do is step back and go, "Hum, isn't that interesting" Then step forward and point out that musement. Take the initiative to see past what everyone else sees and wants you to see, then point it out.
Then again, I'm also fond of tacos....

As I travel along the road of life,
I come to the conclusion that the road of life is a deadend.
Only those who choose a diffirent path from the others become great and infinite.
But what is the meaning?
Something that is infinite does not have a bigining,
And something that does not start does not have an ending. Is infinitety nothing or is nothing infinite?

I belive the meaning of life is to live, simply put, there isn't a meaning. If there is a meaning, that means there has to be fate, and i dont' like the idea that some outside force is secretly telling me what to do, fuck that to some bad place, (besides hell, hell has been used a little too much).

acording to the hitch hikders guide to the galaxy, the meaning of life is 42
That's not the meaning of life. The answer is 42, but the question can not exist in the same universe as the answer. So we don't know the question to what the answer is.
I read the entire trilogy of five. :D

Quite the subject. I don't believe in God or any greater power or life after death. I think there is no meaning for life; we're just here. We have life, and it's up to us to decide what to do with it.

worry about the meaning of life later. life is for living i think. its all about those moments when youre with your friends or loved ones that make you feel happy.

To change one person. In life you go through as a corrupt being, your greedy, selfish, mean, your every bad thing on the Earth, but their is one time you will do something for someone that will either change them somehow either in a bad way or a good way. Then you have fufilled your destiny, and you die.

The meaning of life is written on giant fiery letters on a faraway planet. It is God's Final Message to Humanity.

Personally I think the meaning of life is what we get from life. If you live and don't enjoy life than it's meaningless. But if you live it and enjoy the hell out of it, then hey, your life has meaning. But this is just my opinion. The factual evidence of the meaning of life is a movie by Monty Python!

There is not any meaning of life really. why do you choose to pursue the meaning and what do you have to gain? and even if you do, then what? what do you really hope to accomplish then?
But...
religion is only good fo discipline, although it's usually manipulated as with the crusades and al quaeda. there is no creator, as he/she must be created by something bigger, and so on.

Well, I've summed it up like so...
Humans are in a sense, viruses (watch "The Matrix", interrogation scene). We need to spread in order to survive. Our nature is similar to that of a little parasite.
Just perhaps viruses are an unseen backlash to the creation of DNA and RNA and just perhaps that backlash was somehow injected into our line of evolution. We may just be parasites with a special ability to choose between good and evil and be able to ponder the universe. Maybe God wanted to see if an intelligent yet parasitic, frail, weak, and highly and/or potentially dangerous organism could survive the test of reality. God whipped up his magic Play-doh and made humans, blessed with the ability to create and destroy at will and cursed with conscience.
Our meaning? Probably just an experiment, just like the Platypus. Our creator is some superhuman hyperspace entity with a sense of humor. He/She/It thought we'd kill ourselves by now. But I like to think of living as pissing off God. He created something that refuses to go away. An everlasting meanace to the universe. Well here we are, the meanace species that here to stay and won't stop bitching about everything.
Summed up I think the meaning of life is merely overcoming obsticles or being crushed by them. I'm sure that's what the experiment was intended for. It's also a nice little bonus to create and destroy and think whatever I feel like.

Firstly, just to say this bloke has pretty much summed up my view to religion completely in that first sentance: I like to think of living as pissing off God.
Secondly, Iraqnophobia, you have my huge respect for that Monty Python picture... they rawk! And thirdly, before kicking off into my philisophical babbling, have t say Douglas Adams rawks too, and the HHGG is almost as good as some of the monty python stuff... all that is actually relevant to what am gonna say about my views on the meaning of life...
Fair enough. Might as well start with God... since, if he/she/it/they exist, then everyhting probably started with him/her/it/them. have already posted this in that other thread called 'God or atheist', but might as well put it here:
I think there must be something like a god out there... even if the human race is a result of evolution, something must have started it all off. no one has even seen something come out of nothing, so there must be some force more powerful than any of our current scientific 'fact' to have created the universe.
Then again, if there is such a god, I personally think it wouldn't care if you worship it or spit at it. I doubt it really would crave its own creations praises that much... There's no way I'm going to go worshipping it, like there's no way I'd go worshipping any human.
hence, i like to see living, like that other bloke, as a way of pissing off god.
And the meaning of life... I think is to be creative. We're all going to die sooner or later, and our lives will have very little impact, probably, on future generations (and definately no impact on past generations). It may sound like I just want to hang onto this world as long as possible, even when I'm dead, when I say that if you create then you can make a bit of yourself continue living as long as your creation does, but thats not what I mean. I mean that, in being creative, we are using our unique ability to create something out of nothing. Not physically - all the atoms and molecules in whatever we create already existed, of course, but aethsetically (however you spell that bloody word). Another way of getting back at god, by being able to do something almost like he can do, if he exists and created us.
When I'm creative, I certainly feel much more energised and less worried about life's problems. And it leaves something behind that hopefully will be appreciated by others, perhaps long after you're dead. Personally, thats what I think can fulfill your life, and is the meaning of it. Hence, I think Douglas Adams certainly fulfilled his life, and very successfully, by writing so profically, and his books are espcially helpful when your down or depressed, cause they're so funny. But it might also be cause of the creativity contained in them. The same goes for Monty Python.
I don'tknow. Maybe its different for people who are not creative. Maybe everyone is creative in one way or another. Maybe no human can truly be creative (although I don't believe that). But thats just a couple of my thoughts.
Screw that, I'm too young to have any opinions like that... the only reason I'm still in front of this screen is that no one is out on a sunday night... but hey... (such a pathetic end to a post on the meaning of life, eh?)

Life is about being constructive, completing your ambition and having an honourable cause to die for if not your life is not worth living for.

Ahh...
The meaning of life...
It all feels like such a sick game sometimes, doesn't it? As for the meaning, I don't believe there is any. That's like asking "Why do people like Brittany Spears' music?"
You'll never know. It's an ongoing tirade of crap, that will eventually forgotten. Human beings are the same way, just on a much larger timescale (at least, I hope I outlive Britany Spears' musical career), and eventually something will happen, and humans will be gone forever. Even if we simply continue to evolve and don't end up killing each other, the evolved race will eventually dominate us, and we'll fade away, just like the neanderthal.
So, if you haven't seen any of the posts in "God vs. Athiest" I recommend going. I posted there on all my theories of "God", and don't want Wade or Tom to take this post down or anything for just reposting.
As far as my advice for the meaning of life, all I can say is don't dwell on such things. So what if there might not be a meaning to life. What you need to do is go out and enjoy all the little things. I know it sounds totally hokey and cliche', but if you focus on such things (a cold beer, boobs, macaroni & cheese, etc.) you really will notice an improvement in life. Just do what you can, and try to find happiness. It's what we're all after, although not all of us can find it.
Good Luck.
If you do find it, send me a postcard with the directions.
Word.
