Metal Gear Solid The Movie

After playing Twin Snakes yesteday with my friends, we striked up a convo about how all Metal Gear Solid Games (particularly the 3D ones) could easy be made into movies and would get amazing ratings. First we talked about which Game, and seing as we had just finished playing MGS1, we discussed MGS1..
We decided it would have to be Directed by one of the the best. That's when we came up with the idea that Peter Jackson could Direct it.

Then we came up with the casting ideas.
Solid Snake could be played by Russel Crowe. (Hideo Kojimas's comment to when asked)
Meryl could be played by Perhaps Julia Roberts or Carrie-Anne Moss.. (Both can act very demanding, and that's how Meryl is played in the Game)
Colonel could be played by Rip Torn. (Rip Torn plays a good old man, I noticed this when i watched Dodgeball)
The DARPA Chief could easily be played by Samuel L Jackson (You know why ;D)
Liquid Could be played by Sean Bean (Sean Bean is English and plays a good Villain)
Vulcan Raven could so easily be played by Arnold Schwarzenegger (Big And Strong)

We couldn't decide on some others, but we all decided that they have to be GOOD actors. These parts were;
Sniper Wolf, she would have to be played by someone sexy and evil.
Ninja would be played by anyone energetic.
Naomi, someone boring.
There's quite a few others..

So do you agree that with the right actors and Directors etc, Metal Gear Solid 1, would make a Hit Movie? And do you agree on my choice of Actors?

NO. Video game to movie adaptaitons ALWAYS fuck up, and is usually works in reverse, too. I'm going to be laughing when I see how terrible the DOA movie is. I'm going to spend the entire time when I'm at the movie Bloodrayne playing my DS and/or PSP. I am going to barf when I, and everyone else, sees how pathetic the Halo movie is, and I am going to go home from each one wishing I didnt pay five bucks for that piece of crap.

Let's not have the movie industry ruin ANOTHER good gaming franchise, m'kay?

why don't the metal gear solid team just make a full 30minute movire outta the movie bits from the metal gear games, instead of a crappy adaption, i mean remember dead or alive *shivers*

That has not been released yet. And it is being made by the company that made the game, so they know what they are doing, instead of some stupid diirector who has never played the game.

Maybe, if you wanted too much exposition, wanted it to be filmed in the wilderness of New Zealand, and wanted lots of internal conflict, identity crises and superfluous epiphanies of the main characters, and lots of scenes where characters would stare at eachother as if they were just going to give the other a big hug and a kiss.

Here's my thoughts:

Complete CGI film. Written by Hideo Kojima. Directed by Hideo Kojima. Snake by David Hayder. Others by themselves. How could that go wrong?

There's no need to make a live-action MGS movie. The characters look and act so realistic that it would be like making a FRIENDS movie with different actors for the characters. With the technology we have, there's no reason they shouldn't do it CGI. Also, to Dead Pixels, your thoughts suck. Peter Jackson? Because he makes good movies? He makes epics. Jackson making MGS wouldn't make sense. Someone who can easily transform their style like Robert Rodriguez would be good, but I don't ever want to see a live-action MGS movie anyway.

Funny that you say that, because Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence is going to have one of its three discs be a three-hour movie using the cut scenes from the game as well as new scenes to fill in the storyline that was express during play time. It's going to be so awesome.

Kurt Russell was the inspiration for Kojima to make Snake (which is why he calls himself Pliskin in #2), but he's way too old now. If he was like 20 years younger, he'd possibly work. Still I'm going with a CGI approach.

PS: The MGS movie -- if it gets made -- will not follow the storyline of any of the games. Kojima already said that and he had a good point too. Why make a movie of what is already perfect? You'd be watching an adapted version of a game that expresses its storyline as a movie does. There's no reason to make a bad version of a good thing.

Games usually cost more. Plus, movies produce more toys, shirts, lunchboxes, keychains, collectibles, art books, posters, spinn-off videos, etc. than games ever have. Overall, (action, sci-fi, fantasy) movies tend to rake in a lot more money than a video game.

Im Sorry, but the last 3 metal gear solid games WERE movies with slight interactivity... but 90% was movie cutscenes, beautiful ones, but still, its already more of a movie than game, right down to its production.
